Valentine's Day is coming up and we thought this would be the perfect time to show your furbaby a little extra love! Here are the 6 ways to do so:
Have you ever looked into your Kitty’s eyes and wondered what they were thinking? Watch your cat’s body language to really understand what’s going on in their head. The tail lets us know when kitty is happy or angry. Watch for a highflying tail, that’s when your kitty is really feeling great with the world! If it twitches back and forth or becomes bushy, watch out, kitty is not so pleased! Also how your kitty grooms itself says more than you imagined. If the cat licks you, they are feeling affectionate. Constant intense licks indicate boredom. The ears tell us so much also, for example, if your kitty’s ears are straight up and alert, they are ready to have some fun. If the ears point down and back, kitty is furious! The paws tell us much also, for example, if your kitty is kneading with the paws, they are content. And the eyes tell all, if your kitty is wide eyed and looking at you, they are listening to you. If the eye pupils are in slits, kitty is feeling alert and confident. Bug eyed means kitty is scared. Learn to read your kitty’s body language and talk to them each day, they will love you for it!
Cats love to be clean so helping them to groom themselves is a great way to show some love. Regular grooming also helps a kitty with reduction in hairballs. Try using a warm damp cloth along the head and neck or just gently brush them. Grooming your kitty daily will help them to love and to trust you.
You love treats and kitty does too so don’t forget to offer healthy cat treats. Spoil kitty with catnip, cat grass, or tuna flakes just to name a few. Check out kitnipbox.com where you can get a box of goodies shipped each month if you get bored offering the same thing.
Kitties love to be petted and massaged. The best time to do this is when your kitty comes to you, an indication that they are ready for interaction. Stay calm and start by rubbing your kitty’s favorite spot. Use fingertips to massage delicate areas such as head and face. Pay attention to your kitty and make sure they are enjoying the massage session. If they keep trying to get up, they are not interested. A relaxed kitty will be purring and/or falling asleep!
Napping is one of kitty’s favorite things to do. Napping with kitty will make them feel your love and they will trust and love you in return!
Keeping your kitty from being bored is a great way to show them that you love them. Mental stimulation for any cat is necessary to have a happy cat! In addition, under stimulated cats sometimes make eating a hobby, which results in overeating and a pudgy kitty. Play with kitty regularly, at least 20 minutes a day, with toys that stimulate their hunting instincts. This can be done with string, ribbon toys, or laser pointers. There are several ways to effectively train your kitty, whether you are trying to teach them to be more social, or to correct a bad habit, using positive reinforcement and lots of patience is best. Training can be more effective with the use of treats, clickers or catnip. Mother cats naturally train kittens if they are with them for at least 2 months. Kittens weaned too soon can be more aggressive and require more training. When all else fails, make the sounds of a mother cat when kitty is not listening to you. Mother cats scold kittens by making a clicking sound at the back of the throat and it is possible for humans to mimic. Click your tongue against the roof of your mouth when the kitty is doing something that is against the rules. Watch the magic happen!!
