Meet the cat community in Orange, CA
From hobnobbing with celebrities like Kevin Costner, Tiger Woods, or Gwen Stefani; to watching the waves at world-famous surfing spot The Wedge, your cat can do it all in Orange County, California. Beautiful beaches, world-class surfing, fabulous shopping and dining, and endless sunshine...it’s no wonder over three million people call Orange County home. The idyllic weather and local attractions make it a great place for people and their furry feline friends. But there’s more to OC than just good looks. Career-minded cats and cat owners will love the fact that many Fortune 500 companies—like Oakley, Hurley, Mazda, Toyota, Samsung, Hyundai and others—have their main or regional headquarters here. Plenty of opportunities for an ambitious kitty to climb that corpurrate ladder! If your cat is a little more mischievous, she might get a kick out of the county’s less-than squeaky clean past. Back in the 1800s, Orange County was part of the Wild West frontier, where stagecoach robberies, shootouts, and horse thieves were common. Maybe that’s why Fifi guards her catnip so fiercely? For cats and their humans with more discriminating tastes, Orange County has some great specialty pet shops where you can spoil your furbaby to your heart’s content. Furly’s Pet Supply has everything from natural food and treats, toys and accessories, to specialty supplements that cater to your cat’s unique health concerns. Cats who make Santa’s nice list are sure to love a present in their stocking from the annual holiday boutique organized by the Laguna Woods Cat Club. Treat yourself to a refreshing beverage at any of several cat cafes around the county. (Don’t worry, we won’t tell Mr. Muffins!) Catmosphere is Orange County’s very first cat cafe, and was named the number one must-see cat cafe by none other than the Travel Channel. It’s the purrfect place to unwind, have a drink, and play with all their adorable, adoptable cats. For a small entry fee that helps to care for their kitties until they get adopted, you can schedule a visit to the Caturday Lounge. But before you leave, be sure to check out the cute cat-themed merchandise they have for sale. Putting a unique and convenient spin on things is Moon Cat Cafe, the first mobile cat cafe in Orange County. That’s right - their cats come to you! Take advantage of the chance to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in their modern, renovated step van while you get to know some new feline friends. In a place with weather this perfect, who doesn’t want to get outside sometimes and stretch their legs? Orange County has a couple of great pet-friendly parks to bring your cat for an afternoon of outdoor adventure. The Holy Jim Trail has an easy 2.8 mile hike, and both you and your kitty will love the abundant shade and gorgeous views. There’s even a waterfall to whet kitty’s whistle after all that walking. O’Neill Regional Park is also a great place for you and your cat to get some fresh air and exercise, with 4,500 beautiful wooded acres, 23 miles of trails, and two creeks to explore. Unfortunately, Orange County has a serious feral cat problem, but lots of charities and rescues have sprung up to address the problem, and all of them could use your help. Check out OC Animal Care and their feral cat outreach program to see how you can get involved. OC Community Cats also works to contain the problem of stray and feral cats through trap, neuter, and return efforts, and they’re always looking for volunteers. They have cats available for adoption into loving homes, as well. Second Chance Pet Adoptions, MeoowzResQ, and OCSP Cat Rescue are all no-kill shelters with lots of sweet kitties looking for furrever homes, and would love to have your help. Blue Bell Foundation for Cats has the unique mission of providing lifetime care in a loving, enriching environment to senior cats whose owners can’t care for them any longer. They don’t adopt out any of the cats who come to stay with them, so if you know someone who’s struggling to take care of their beloved kitty, Blue Bell is a great option. All of the cats live completely cage-free in a real home on a large property with plenty of enrichment opportunities and space to roam safely. Got a cat who loves the jet-setting high life? Or maybe he purrfers the rugged outdoors? Whatever you and your feline pal are into, chances are you can find it in Orange County. And if you’re still looking for a furrever friend, the many cat rescues and cafes in the area will surely make it hard to decide—a great problem to have! Whether you’re already owned by a cat or you’re still looking for the perfect whiskered companion, Meowtel’s vetted and insured sitters will be there for you when you can’t be there for them.
