Lifetime Cat Mom For Kitty Sitting

I'm Jessica

Cat Sitting in Eagle River, AK

Hi! I am Jessica. I love cats and suspect you do too if you are reading this. I have had cats througout my life. Earning their trust is my ultimate goal and feels like the greatest accomplishment. Learning more about them and how to give them better care is important to me. I have had long-haired, short-haired, young and old cats. I have adopted elderly cats, young dogs ones, adults and a kitten. I have had rescue cats with thyroid, kidney and other conditions such as asthma as well as cancer. I spent considerable time and money researching treatments, supplements and working with veterinarians during their treatment. I always put my cat’s health first.

I am very picky about cat sitters for my own cats so I understand if other cat parents feel the same way.

I want someone to pay attention to not only the basics like cleaning the box and feeding my cats but to notice if their behavior could indicate any health problem...

I spent considerable time and money researching treatments, supplements and working with veterinarians during their treatment. I always put my cat’s health first.

I am very picky about cat sitters for my own cats so I understand if other cat parents feel the same way.

I want someone to pay attention to not only the basics like cleaning the box and feeding my cats but to notice if their behavior could indicate any health problem. I pay attention to every detail when cat sitting to make sure I notice any signs of urinary blockage, diarrhea, constipation, respiratory conditions, asthma and make sure they are eating and drinking. I also try to make them feel as safe and comfortable as possible by giving them time to get to know me. Talking calmly and not pushing to pet them before they are comfortable is important to gain trust. Offering treats or catnip can help but I won’t be offended if they don’t appear interested at first. Patience is important when cats.

I will contact their owner if anything serious or concerning comes up but I know cats can hide and be scarce at first with a new person. This depends on the individual cat however so it helps to meet them before the owners leave and get an idea of their personality. I will always give pet parents updates and send photos to show how their kitty is doing each day.

I will give a kitty as much love and attention as they want. Kitty loves are the best!! I am fascinated by the unique personalities of each cat and love to get to know them.

I help several local cat rescue groups by donating cat food, money, supplies and toys and sharing their social media posts for fundraising, searching for fosters and adopters.

I will always put pet care first and would be honored to take care of your cats any time you travel or need extra help!

Learn More About Jessica

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have had cats all my life and am always happy to watch other people’s cats as well. I remember cat sitting for family friends as a kid and still remember those cats names from 30 some years ago. I kitty sat for several years for two cats here in Eagle River whenever their Mom traveled on weekends or out of state as she was in the Navy. I have also house sat for people in Valdez and Anchorage with both dogs and cats. I make sure to clean food and water bowls or fountains, scoop boxes, sweep, clean around food bowls, give catnip and treats, play and spend as much time as possible with each kitty so then don’t feel lonely. I look out for any health problems such as urinary blockages, constipation, diarrhea or URIs. I have been sitting for 25 years.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I currently have 4 cats: “Pooch” who is the senior kitty but still races around. We believe he is a Norwegian Forest Cat mix. He is huge, fluffy and regal. He has hyperthyroidism and gets medication daily. “Belle” is a dilute tortoise shell with a naturally bobbed tail. She might be an American Bobtail cat. Her tail is permanently kinked in a fluffy curl. She has feline asthma and we help her get her puff from the inhaler every day. “Sassafras” is our most recent rescue boy. He is a striking grey and black tabby with white feet and bib. “Tiberius” is our baby boy whom we rescued as a kitten. He is all black and very mischievous and energetic. I I have had five other wonderful cats over my lifetime.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I would always meet someone before hiring them to care for my cats. I would also want to make sure they had good reviews or references if I did not know them already. My cats are family and I would not be comfortable with a random stranger in my home and being responsible for my babies. I would want to know they are aware of common health issues in cats and also make sure they show interest in my cat’s personality and any health problems. If they don’t show interest or have any knowledge of these conditions they may not pay close attention when I am gone and notice signs of trouble. Cats are very good at hiding pain or illness so it important a cat sitter understands this and knows what to look for. Finally I would want to know they are a “cat person” who understands and appreciates cats.

From the moment of our first contact with Jessica, it was clear that her first priority is to love and care for our two elderly cats during our absence. Jessica is extremely detail oriented and ensured that she knew everything about our home and our kitties. She was super diligent about giving medicine, ensuring security, and giving them their food and treats. just as importantly, she went the extra mile to engage with them, cuddle them, and play with them. She even brought her own laser toy! With it, she got our 14 year old boys romping like kittens! Jessica is loving and extremely responsible, and for sure, we will invite her back into our home any time! You will be very pleased if you ask her to care for your feline friends. We would trust her with anything precious to us and our family.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Eagle River cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
