Cat Sitting in Birmingham, AL

I’ve always been an animal lover, which eventually led to my foster-fail fur babies, Berry and Sully. We’ve recently moved back to Alabama after a decade in Chicago, where I fostered over 20 cats and kittens. I can’t do that in my building here, so cat sitting feels like a great option!

With fostering, I have lots of experience with different personalities - I love earning the trust of the most nervous or sometimes even aggressive kitties. And I obviously enjoy playtime and cuddles, whatever your cat wants! Regardless...

With fostering, I have lots of experience with different personalities - I love earning the trust of the most nervous or sometimes even aggressive kitties. And I obviously enjoy playtime and cuddles, whatever your cat wants! Regardless of your cat’s level of comfort, I’ll always get the best pictures I can of your babies while you’re away 😻

I’m very comfortable administering topical and oral meds (including pills). I have plenty of personal experience with cleaning up urine and other messes, and I’ve given many kittens their first claw trims if you’d like any help with that too!

If you’re gone for an extended period, I’m happy to do any small things around the house - I can water any plants or even feed a sourdough starter. (My small hobbies are pretty extensive with working from home for so long.) I’ll treat your space and your fur babies with the same care and respect that I give my own home, and I hope I can give you the ultimate peace of mind while you’re away.

Learn More About Maring

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! I adopted Raspberry (Berry) in 2021 and Sully in 2023. They were both foster fails from when I lived in Chicago. They can both be pretty shy, however they couldn’t be more different. Berry is a typical judgy cat while Sully might be a puppy deep down - it’s like having a permanent teenager and toddler, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Whenever possible, try to make sure your cat meets your sitter with you! It always helps when a cat parent can introduce someone new to the cat’s territory. At minimum, it’s ideal when even the shyest kitty can get a good sniff with their parent around. Even better if they can share a quick snack or play moment. Anything to help establish that the new human’s scent is not a threat to their familiar human(s)!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

As a kid, I learned early that most shy animals need to see a level of trust and come to you. With new fosters, I always spent a good chunk of time just sitting in the same room, as close as I can without trapping them. If they seem interested in me but still nervous, I’d keep a smelly treat nearby and maybe start with a wand toy so that they can keep a safe distance. If I absolutely need to handle the cat before they’re completely comfortable with me (because meds), I try to take things as slowly and gently as possible and always reward with treats and gentle praise throughout the process.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
