What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve always had cats of my own, both as a child and all through my adulthood. Over the years I have provided cat care for countless friends and neighbors, and I recently decided to build a business around providing professional cat care and home care to conscientious pet owners.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I’m a sensitive, compassionate person and I can tell when a pet is missing its owner and feeling uncomfortable. I like being able to reassure cats and help them feel comfortable while also enjoying interacting with them. Cats are highly intelligent, creative, and beautiful and I enjoy being around them. They fascinate me!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I don’t really have a favorite cat sitting experience, because every cat and experience is unique. That said, I did once care for an elder cat named Pumpkin who really appreciated when I gave her a really good brushing. She loved it!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two cats, George and Greta, who are siblings. I’ve had them since they were 6 weeks old (I fostered a litter of 5 cats through Home at Last cat rescue in Berkeley) and they are truly a part of our family. Sometimes it feels like our household revolves around them!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Clear communication with your cat sitter is key. I always leave written instructions for mine, in addition to walking them through my cats’ care routine (and house instructions) in person. Other info that’s important to leave for your sitter: Vet information and a local contact in case of emergencies, and notes about your cat’s likes and dislikes. It’s helpful to check in by text message daily to make sure all is well on the home front. I like to send daily photos, just to reassure cat parents that all is well.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Talking by phone is a good first step to get the ball rolling. I like to hear about the cat’s history and personality before our first meeting, and understand your cat sitting needs and expectations before we start.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Making sure the home is secure is my top priority, as this also ensures the cat’s safety. That means double checking entry doors and cat doors, and all windows and gates. Everything should be locked and put away, as instructed. Cat food should also be well sealed and stored appropriately. Countertops, bowls, and utensils should be cleaned so as not to attract insects. Lights should be turned off or left on according to instructions, and the home’s temperature should be double checked, so that cats stay comfortable while their humans are away.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Sometimes—we have aging parents outside the Bay Area, and our holiday schedule changes depending on whether or not we’re spending that holiday with them.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Feather toys are usually a hit, especially the ones attached to cords or wands. Depending on the cat’s age and athletic ability, they can really get a workout chasing these pretend birds!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I give timid and anxious cats plenty of space so that they can get to know me on their own schedule. I may get down to their level and offer treats or soothing words to gain trust, but I don’t force interactions.

Cancellation Policy

Customers may cancel within 24 hours of making their reservation and receive a 100% refund, and the sitter will not receive any earnings. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:

Customers will receive a 100% refund to their Account Balance if they cancel anytime up to 48 hours before the start date of the reservation, and the sitter will not receive any earnings.

Customers will receive a 50% refund, and the sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings if the customer cancels between 24-48 hours of the start of the reservation.

No refund will be issued within 24 hours of the reservation, and the sitter will keep 100% of their planned earnings.
