Meowtel's Premium Insurance
We are proud to provide each of our independently-contracted Meowtel cat sitters with the full benefits of our Meowtel Promise on eligible reservations where each visit is at or above $20, inclusive of sitter discounts and holiday surcharges. Your cat(s) will automatically be covered under our insurance policy in the event that things don't go as planned when you book and pay for a Meowtel Promise reservation through the app.

We are proud to inform you that Meowtel, for its own account and for the benefit of eligible cat owners (“Customers”) and independently-contracted Meowtel cat sitters (“Sitters”), provides "Meowtel's Premium Insurance". Please be aware that this is a limited protection plan offered and administered directly by Meowtel (“Plan”), subject to the terms, conditions, significant limitations, and exclusions set forth below (the "Insurance Terms"). Meowtel is solely responsible for administering and funding claims approved under this Plan. These Insurance Terms are not exhaustive, and in case of any inconsistency, the full terms stated herein shall govern. This Plan is secondary to any other applicable insurance.
These Insurance Terms apply in addition to our standard terms and conditions located at https://meowtel.com/terms-service (“Meowtel Standard Terms and Conditions”). You must comply with all applicable requirements and conditions set forth in these Insurance Terms to be eligible for Meowtel Insurance.
Customers and Sitters acknowledge that Meowtel may choose to discontinue this Plan at any time at its sole discretion. The below Plan coverage applies only to eligible losses arising from injury or damage that occurs during the scheduled start and end dates of the applicable Meowtel reservation.
Eligibility Requirements
- In order to qualify to receive Plan benefits with respect to a specific Cat Sitting booking, the Cat Sitting Fee, net of any sitter discounts or promotional coupons, for that booking must be at least $20 (the “Minimum Threshold”) for every visit listed on the Cat Sitting booking. For example, if a visit rate is set to $22 and a 25% sitter coupon brings the per-visit rate to $16.50, this Cat Sitting booking will not qualify for Plan benefits. Meowtel may update from time to time the Minimum Threshold at its sole discretion by updating these Insurance Terms.
- Per our Terms, all communication between Users must be done through the Platform. The Meowtel chat room between both parties will be used as our primary documentation method to investigate any claim, so it is in both parties' best interest to keep all communication on Meowtel.
- YOU SHALL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR PLAN BENEFITS IF YOU USE OUR SERVICES FRAUDULENTLY OR FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF BENEFITTING FROM THIS PLAN. ANY VIOLATION OF THIS PROVISION CONSTITUTES FRAUD AND IS CRIMINALLY PUNISHABLE. IN ADDITION TO TERMINATING YOUR ACCESS TO THE PLATFORM, MEOWTEL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE ANY LEGAL ACTION AVAILABLE.
What's Covered For Customers (Subject to Limits, Deductibles, and Exclusions)
Subject to the terms and conditions of these Insurance Terms, this Plan will cover the following for eligible Customer claimants:
- Any cat listed on a Meowtel reservation while under a Sitter's care, custody, or control.
- Sudden illness, injury, death, theft, or the mysterious disappearance of a cat if any of these were directly caused by a Sitter's verified negligence and evidence satisfactory to Meowtel, in our sole discretion, can be provided.
- Property damage if the damage is directly caused by a Sitter's verified negligence evidence satisfactory to Meowtel, in our sole discretion, can be provided.
- Property theft if the theft is directly caused by a Sitter's verified negligence and evidence satisfactory to us, in our sole discretion, can be provided.
What We Do Not Cover (Exclusions)
This Plan DOES NOT cover any costs, expenses, damages, injuries, or losses related to or arising from the following:
- Injuries to any Sitter or Customer that is party to the Meowtel reservation.
- Injuries or damage to any other cat(s) or animals other than the cat(s) listed on the Meowtel reservation.
- Injuries or damage to a Customer's property which was caused by their own cat(s).
- Veterinary care or costs associated with any sudden illness, injury, or death of a cat due to natural causes, a cat's misbehavior, or a pre-existing medical condition (including any condition present, diagnosed, or for which treatment was sought before the reservation started).
- Any claim arising from cat hosting operations conducted in the Sitter's own home, which is a service type we do not offer. All Sitter services must be performed in the home of the Customer to be eligible for Plan coverage.
- Any incident that may occur during a “Meet and Greet” between a Customer and a Sitter or any other service not applicable to a Meowtel reservation.
- Any incident that may occur during a reservation that was not confirmed and paid for through Meowtel.
- Any cat that is intentionally let outside of the home at any point during the reservation, per the request of the Customer.
- In the case of injury to a cat, non-medical expenses (e.g., travel, time off work, specialized food unless deemed medically necessary by vet and part of direct treatment cost).
- Damage, injury, or loss due to intentional or criminal acts, including theft that is premeditated or involves fraud, deception, or collaboration between the sitter and another party.
- Damage, injury, loss, or liabilities arising from a Customer's refusal to authorize recommended medical care for their cat.
- Damage, injury or loss relating to a cat whose ownership or care is prohibited by or subject to registration under any applicable law.
- Damage, injury or other loss arising from a natural disaster or act of nature (including, without limitation, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of Sitter and/or Customer).
- Injuries resulting from or related to a Pre-Existing Condition, Breed-Specific Condition, Chronic Condition, Orthopedic Condition, Undetermined Cause Illness, Preventable Illness or Proptosis.
- Sitter business expenses, including but not limited to parking fines, parking fees, towing fees, locksmith or lockout-related charges due to lost keys, and any other incidental costs incurred by the sitter during a reservation.
- Emotional distress caused as a result of a reservation on Meowtel.
Special Circumstances
- Plan coverage will be completely void on a reservation that includes any indoor/outdoor cat, outdoor cats, or feral cats. We do not guarantee the safety or well-being of any cat that is allowed outside the home.
- Plan coverage may be void on any reservation where an individual other than the Customer or Sitter has access to and enters the Customer's home without prior written permission from the Customer via the Meowtel Inbox (exception: Accompanied minors who are the children of the Sitter may attend reservation visits only if the Sitter has received written permission from the Customer via the Meowtel Inbox).
- Plan coverage will not apply if a Sitter or Customer relinquishes care, custody, or control of a cat to a third party during the reservation period.
- Plan coverage will not apply if the damage, injury, or loss claims arose, in whole or in part, from conduct from a claimant that violates the Meowtel Standard Terms and Conditions.
Policy Limits, Deductibles, and Financial Terms
- This Plan is NOT a substitute for other policies. It only applies to the extent the damages are not recoverable under any other applicable insurance policy of the claimant (including, without limitation: (i) property insurance like homeowner's/renter's for damages to the Customer's home, (ii) pet insurance for any damage to a cat). This Plan provides SECONDARY coverage.
- The Plan shall have a $10,000 MAXIMUM limit per occurrence (“Plan Limit”). This is the absolute maximum Meowtel will pay for any single incident, regardless of the number of claims or claimants.
- A $500 DEDUCTIBLE per incident, payable by the Sitter, applies to ALL claims submitted under this Plan, including for injury or harm to the Customer's cat, for property damage, or for property theft.
- Eligible veterinary expenses arising from sudden injury directly caused by a Sitter's verified negligence fall under the $10,000 Plan Limit and are subject to the $500 sitter-paid deductible.
- Claims for incidents resulting in verified losses valued at $500 or more are subject to the $10,000 Plan Limit and the $500 Sitter-paid deductible as described above.
- The policy limits set forth above represent the absolute maximum liability of Meowtel to Customers and/or Sitters in connection with any single reservation under this Plan.
Meowtel Small Claim Assistance (Losses Under $500)
- For specific, eligible incidents resulting in direct, documented financial losses under $500 (e.g., minor property damage, initial vet assessment costs) and verified by Meowtel as directly caused by Sitter negligence during a confirmed reservation, Meowtel, at its sole discretion, may offer reimbursement assistance directly to the Customer (“Small Claim Assistance”). This assistance is intended to help resolve minor incidents quickly.
- This assistance has a maximum limit of $499.99 per incident.
- This assistance is provided separately from, and does not count towards, the main $10,000 Plan Limit.
- The $500 Sitter-paid deductible does not apply to this specific Small Claim Assistance.
- Eligibility still requires timely reporting (within 72 hours) and providing necessary documentation as outlined in the "How to Report an Incident" section. All other Plan exclusions apply.
- Meowtel reserves the right to determine eligibility and the amount of any assistance provided under this provision in its sole discretion.
How To Report An Incident
- Any incident occurring during a reservation must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the last date listed on the reservation. Failure to report within this timeframe may void eligibility for Plan benefits.
- Please call 1-844-MEOWTEL or email [email protected] to report an incident. A support specialist will be happy to assist you!
- You must promptly provide all necessary information and documentation reasonably requested by Meowtel in order to begin processing any eligible claim. Determination of eligibility requires prompt reporting and documentation, which may include, but is not limited to: communications via the Meowtel platform, timestamped photographs or videos, third-party reports (e.g., veterinary itemized invoices, police reports), and any other information reasonably requested by Meowtel to assess the claim.
- In exchange for Plan coverage for an approved claim, we may require you to sign a settlement agreement, including a release of claims against Meowtel.
Disclaimers
TO THE EXTENT A CUSTOMER OR SITTER DESIRES PROTECTION BEYOND THE VERY LIMITED SCOPE OF THESE TERMS, THE CUSTOMER OR SITTER MUST PURCHASE THEIR OWN PRIMARY INSURANCE (E.G., HOMEOWNER'S, RENTER'S, PET INSURANCE FOR CUSTOMERS; BUSINESS LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR SITTERS) IN ADDITION TO THE TERMS PROVIDED HEREIN. CUSTOMERS AND SITTERS ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS LIMITED PLAN HAS SIGNIFICANT EXCLUSIONS AND A DEDUCTIBLE, AND ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SECURE THEIR OWN PRIMARY INSURANCE POLICIES FOR BROADER PROTECTION.
A CUSTOMER OR SITTER ONLY HAS RIGHTS UNDER THESE INSURANCE TERMS IF THEY MEET THE CONDITIONS OF THESE INSURANCE TERMS WITH RESPECT TO THE APPLICABLE COVERED LOSS WHILE THE INSURANCE TERMS ARE IN EFFECT. THERE ARE NO THIRD-PARTY BENEFICIARIES TO THESE INSURANCE TERMS OR ANY OTHER REPRESENTATIONS REGARDING THESE INSURANCE TERMS.
IN NO EVENT SHALL MEOWTEL, INCLUDING PURSUANT TO THIS PLAN, BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, INTERRUPTION OF BUSINESS, OPPORTUNITY COSTS OR LOSS OF USE).
