Kathleen's Worry-Free Cat Sitting

I'm Kathleen

Cat Sitting in Orland Park, IL

Cats have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and still are. I currently have 4 cats, Cosmic (18 years old), Jingle (16 years old), Berri and Gerri (6 years old). I used to foster for a local rescue and that is how I welcomed Berri and Gerri into my home, I was a "Pandemic Foster Failure". I wanted my children to grow up wih cats, like I did and that is how Cosmic came into our lives when he was a kitten from P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park. Cosmic was adopted with his sister Daisy, but unfortunately Daisy was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of one. Daisy passed from complications with epilepsy and Cosmic was lonely for a sister. That is how Jingle became part of our family right before Thanksgiving from P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park... Cats have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and still are. That is how Jingle became part of our family right before Thanksgiving from P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park.
With having four cats right now, it is more difficult for me to foster, so now for the past 5 years I have volunteered at P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park with my daughter. By working at P.A.W.S. and fostering for many years I am trained to look for anything out of the ordinary with a cat, whether it is a sniffle or they are not eating their food, which must be documented and looked into.

I want to be a cat sitter because I know how hard it is to find someone you trust to take care of your cat. It seems like, where I live, that there is not many options for places to take your cat for short or long periods of time for boarding. It seems that most places only cater to dogs and if they do have a cat area, it is very minimal and very uninviting. It is also very stressful for cats to leave their home because they usually don't leave their homes like dogs do on a daily basis. I luckily have a family member who takes care of my cats when I am away and I know some do not have that person and that is why I would like to cat sit.

I sell real estate and have done so for the past 15 years. The areas I serve would be the southern suburbs of Chicago.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I had 4, unfortunately my Jingle passed August 4, 2025 (my mother's birthday). She passed peacefully at home with my kids and I by her side. A day does not go by that I think about her. Cosmic who will be 19 this year. I call him my little old man. Berri and Gerri who will be 7 this April (my foster failures). You can see their pictures, which some do not include.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

On my meet and greet this is always something I discuss with parents. Does your kitty greet you at the door? If they do I usually bring a jacket to put in front of me as I enter, this helps to move them away from the door. Never use your foot or leg to do this. If I am entering through a garage, I make sure the door is completely down before entering the property. I have sold real estate for 15 years and have shown numerous homes, so I am a pro at keeping a home secure.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I usually am available during the holidays. My family is local, so I still have time for the kitties.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

First rule, always go slow. I find that if you get down to their level and just talk to them, it eases their anxiety. Never force anything a cat will come to you if they are comfortable and want to. With nervous/shy babies, I usually sit on the floor and talk to them. This seems to work and they will come out to see me.

Kathleen is fantastic. She was very thorough. She sent pictures everyday and a summary of how the cats were doing including how much they were eating each day, who hid and who came out to see her and any mischief they got into. She brought packages in that were delivered while I was away. She truly goes above and beyond!! She will be the cat sitter I request any time I go away. Knowing my fur babies are being taken care of so well makes leaving them a little easier! Thank you so much Kathleen!

We couldn’t have asked for a better cat sitter! Taking care of eight cats is no small task, but she handled it with ease. She was incredibly attentive and kept us updated throughout our trip, letting us know how much the cats were eating, flagging any concerns about their health, and sending us photos whenever she saw them. She even kindly brought in our packages! What we appreciated most was how much peace of mind she gave us. We never once felt out of the loop or worried about how our cats were doing because she was so communicative and thoughtful. She did an amazing job, and we would absolutely trust her with our cats again!

Kathleen excels at making us feel comfortable watching Modi when we're gone; he has some challenging medical needs, but her attention to detail and, let's say, tenacity, help Modi get the care he needs, and we get the peace of mind. Thanks again, Kathleen!

Kathy was wonderful with our cats and we came home to three happy, healthy girls as well as a clean home with watered plants. We were able to really enjoy our honeymoon knowing that our gals were being so well taken care of and getting the daily updates.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Orland Park cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
