I'm currently in Hammond, Indiana and the neighborhoods I serve are what is usually considered Northwest Indiana:... Hi! My name is Amanda and I would love to be your next cat sitter! I am a Cat Mama of three sweet kitties, Ava, Freya, and Rumi. When I'm not home playing with and cuddling my own babies, I'm a full time librarian! I love to travel, so I know just how nerve wracking it is to leave your babies behind while you travel, and how hard it can be to find someone you trust to take care of them! I can't wait to meet your fur babies!
I'm currently in Hammond, Indiana and the neighborhoods I serve are what is usually considered Northwest Indiana: Hammond, Munster, Griffith, Highland, East Chicago, Dyer, Schererville, and Merrillville. I am not currently accepting new long distance clients outside of that zone.
Note: I generally plan my availabilities about 3 months in advance, but if you've got a date later than that you may be interested in, just message me and I'll take a look at my schedule!
My schedule with work varies a bit, but I'm usually available either in the afternoons or evenings on Sundays and Mondays, and most evenings throughout the week other than Wednesday, which is my evening shift of the week (1-9). On Wednesdays visits will typically have to be around 11:30 unless otherwise discussed. Because of my work schedule, I generally have limited availability for twice a day drop in.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
Prior to Meowtel, I often cat sit for friends and family. I've been with Meowtel for a year now and loving it!
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
One of the reasons I became a cat sitter was because I could never find a cat sitter! I often looked online and never found any sitter apps that were specific to cats and realized other cat parents were likely doing the same thing - so I decided to become a cat sitter! I am always so worried about my cats when I travel and knowing there is a cat sitter I can trust makes all the difference. As a cat sitter, I enjoy knowing that I can provide that peace of mind to other cat parents and make the transition for the kitties themselves that much easier!
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have three! Ava is 12 years old, Freya is 7 years old and Rumi is the new baby in the family... he's 4 months old! It's been a little hectic at our house as you can imagine, but we're loving it!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Have your sitting information and requests ready to go for the meet and greet. If possible, write it all down and give it to them. Things such as feeding schedules and amounts, litter box needs and issues, home entry information, and medical needs and things we need to be made aware of. Make sure your vet form is filled out and let your vet know you've given approval for treatment if it needs to happen, and let your sitter know where you keep your cat carrier in case of an emergency.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I do my best to always check on each cat during the visit, even if they're the timid kind that hides. In general, being aware of the surroundings and things out of place are both important when securing the safety of the home and the cats.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Most holidays, yes. However, holiday seasons are when I get most of my bookings and occasionally I have to turn off availability because I'm booked solid!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I generally let them come to me, but if they don't want to approach I carefully approach them and stay at least an arm's length apart from them. Once they seem ready, I'll let them sniff my fingers to get used to my scent. If treats are available, I will give them treats. I never force cats to interact with me, but I will speak with them during the visit and give them snacks without forcing constant interaction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Hammond cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $32.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Amanda is an incredible kitty sitter. She is so thorough and thoughtful of not only our kitties’ wellbeing but also us. Her efforts went above and beyond what we hoped for.
