So being a cat sitter is literally the job of my dreams; I absolutely love it! My cat-sitting journey... Hello, my name is Amanda, and I am proud to be a crazy cat lady! I have lived with two cats for the past 9 years, since they were kittens. They are brother and sister, a gray tabby (boy) and a black beauty (girl). They used to belong to my former roommate. Back in 2020 when I was getting ready to move out, she offered to give them to me since she didn't have much time for them and she saw how much I adored and cared for them. Little did she know I had been working up the courage to ask her if I could adopt them, so of course I was thrilled by her offer and instantly accepted! Being a cat mom to these two sweet babies has truly become my greatest joy in life. My kitties bring me so much happiness and I love them more than words can describe.
PET-SITTING EXPERIENCE: At this time I can't commit to adopting any more cats for myself, but as a cat fanatic I jump at any opportunity to make more feline friends. So being a cat sitter is literally the job of my dreams; I absolutely love it! My cat-sitting journey started in the summer of 2021 when a good friend of mine needed a trustworthy caretaker for her two babies, Mars and Sonia, while she was out of the country for several weeks. Although I was happy to take care of them as a favor to my friend, I do consider her my first cat-sitting client. I came upon Meowtel in the spring of 2022, when I saw a recruitment ad while scrolling on Facebook. I was so excited to discover Meowtel's existence, as I had always thought a pet-sitting service exclusively for cats would be an amazing idea. I knew I couldn't pass up this purrfect opportunity, so I applied right then and there! Fast-forward to now, my 4th year with Meowtel, and I feel so very grateful; being a Meowtel sitter is hands-down the best job I've ever had. It's so fun meeting new kitties and getting to know all sorts of different breeds and personalities. My repeat kitty clients have become very near and dear to me, and each one of them holds such a special place in my heart!
MEDICATION EXPERIENCE: As a cat mom and Meowtel sitter, I've had experience with applying topical ointments and administering liquid oral medication, pills, and eye/ear drops.
ABOUT ME: My dream is to be a full-time cat sitter, but for meow I do also have a "regular" job, as a teacher for a virtual elementary academy. Aside from a few on-site obligations throughout the year, my job is 100% work-from-home. While I do work normal school days/hours, this job allows me more flexibility than I would have at a traditional brick-and-mortar school. Of course, the best part of working from home is all the extra time I get to spend with my two kitties. Nothing beats unlimited snuggles, belly rubs, and head kisses! I am very familiar with the Downriver area, as it's been my home for all my life; I grew up in Lincoln Park, lived in Trenton during my late 20s/early 30s, and now live in Gibraltar. I offer services to cat parents who live in most parts of Wayne County and some parts of Monroe County.
Pets are family; I know it can be stressful to leave your fur babies in the care of someone else, but please rest assured I will take the very best care of your kitties, as if they were my own! ❤️

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I wasn't a fan of my two kitties' birth names, but was never able to come up with my own names for them that seemed fitting. So I just call them a variety of nicknames; some popular ones are Meow-Meow, Little Baby, and Little Sweetie.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes! As a teacher, I have most holidays off, so my availability during the holidays is usually more open compared to the rest of the school year.
What is your favorite cat toy?
My own two kitties love wand toys, especially ones with feathers! I find that wand toys are also best for amusing photo opportunities with my kitty clients!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I never force physical affection on a cat, especially one that is still getting to know me. Usually even the shyest kitties warm up to me eventually, but even after multiple visits, there are a couple repeat clients' kitties I have yet to win over! I still show love and care for these kitties in a non-physical way, respecting their space, as I know they'll come to me when they're ready for physical affection. Some successful strategies I've used to develop trust with shy/timid/anxious kitties: Talking in a soft, soothing voice; offering a favorite treat or toy; crouching down to their level to offer pets; inviting them to sniff my finger/clothes/purse; simply sitting in the same room for a while to establish a peaceful, non-threatening presence; and letting them make the first move, however long that may take, when it comes to physical contact.

Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Rockwood cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $33.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

Amanda is amazing! I ask her to watch my cat regularly, and he is in an upbeat mood for days after Amanda's visits. She is quite a cat whisperer. Even the smallest of details are carefully noted; for example she knows how to tweak things when her furry charge does not eat or drink enough.
