Cat Sitting in Cohoes, NY

Hi! I’m Rachel — a lifelong cat lover and proud cat mom to my own spoiled felines. I know firsthand how important it is to find someone who will treat your pets like family — because that’s exactly what they are - family. Some might even call me a “helicopter mom,” but if that’s what it means to keep them safe, happy, and secure, the label is fitting!

I bring years of experience, a calm and gentle approach, and the kind of attention to detail only a fellow pet parent understands. Whether your cat is playful, shy, snuggly, or independent, I’ll meet them on their terms and make sure they feel safe, loved, and well cared for while you’re away.

Some other things I want you to be confident in when you book with me:

-I will enter your home slowly, with awareness, and without distractions to be extra cognizant of your kitty’s location.
-I will make sure to have eyes on your kitty and their location before I leave.
-I will always have clean hands/clothes/shoes before entering - and if you prefer I wear a mask, gloves, booties, etc., just say the word...

-I will make sure to have eyes on your kitty and their location before I leave.
-I will always have clean hands/clothes/shoes before entering - and if you prefer I wear a mask, gloves, booties, etc., just say the word.
-I’m not afraid to clean up hairballs! Just let me know which cleaning solution you prefer, and we will go from there.
-I will double and triple check to make sure all doors to the outside are closed and locked.
-If your kitties are nervous, I will be sure to be a calm presence and will not pressure them.
-I will contact you immediately if something seems “off” just to verify their behavior.
-I will clean food and water bowls to make sure they have fresh water and fresh food. No stale, stinky dried up wet food for your babies!
-I will make sure there are no “hazards” that are easily available (e.g. loose cords).
-I will happily clean the litter box(es) and/or change them as necessary.
-I will make sure they get ample play time, if they feel comfortable, and if they don’t, I’ll just make sure that their space and home is as familiar and exact as they need it to be.

No request is silly or strange! If your kitty likes the word “snackie” instead of “treat,” I’m on it! Like to leave detailed instructions? The longer the better! I will happily accept a four page instruction sheet!

If you need medications administered, let’s discuss. I do have significant experience providing medications as I had a kitty with cardiomyopathy who needed several pills during the day. I didn’t list it as experience in my profile because I prefer to discuss with you first - timing, personality, etc. are super important.

I’m dependable, communicative, and happy to keep you updated with photos and notes so you can relax knowing your fur baby is in good hands. Let’s chat — I’d love to get to know you and your kitty!

🐾 Important Note: For the safety of all pets and myself, I ask that all cats are up-to-date on their vaccinations, even if they’re indoor-only. This helps keep visits safe and stress-free for everyone!

🗓️ If my schedule says I’m not available, please send me a note to check!

🐈‍⬛I can be available weekday mornings if you’re okay with me being there before 7:30 am. Just ask and I can open up my mornings for you to book!

Learn More About Rachel

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve had cats all of my life (and it’s been a long one, so far!). From caring for kitties while friends and family were away, to attentively loving on my own kitties over 20+ years, including one who had very progressive cardiomyopathy - I was born with the mom gene for a different species, and I’m not sad about it!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Honestly, it’s mutually beneficial. They get playtime and connection and in return, I get to love on kitties - which is a form of therapy in its own way!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two sweet babies: Lydia and Steve. They are my everything. Lydia is a calico and Steve is an all black kitty with a cute white patch on his belly. My other kitty, Matteo, passed away two years ago from severe cardiomyopathy. We adopted him when he was about 8 months old and we gave him the best 12 months of his life - which was too short for me. He taught me how to truly love unconditionally. And I would do it all over again.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Always do your research. Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions. If someone can’t answer your questions or they are apathetic to your concerns, move on to the next person. Your kitties are literally a piece of your heart and you 100% have every right to make sure you feel comfortable with the person who’s caring for them when you’re away.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always check the floor in front of the door before entering to make sure no one slips out (then I lock it when I’m in) - and I always make sure to have eyes on them before leaving so I know exactly where they are. If there are any safety hazards I see, like wires that might cause a problem, I’ll reach out and discuss the concerns. If I can’t get ahold of you and know that the removing the hazard won’t cause an issue, I’ll remove it (e.g. unplug it) but still discuss with you later. I don’t leave wired/string toys around (like wands) to remove any possibility of them getting wrapped up in them when they’re spending time alone. I’m also an avid hand washer, and I sanitize my shoes between visits. They are your babies and their safety is everything!

Are you usually available during holidays?

Most holidays, yes I am available. My family celebrates holidays on different days, allowing me some flexibility during those times.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Wands! Most kitties love wand toys. They’re hunters and wand toys give them outlets. I let my kitties “win” and then they take off running with the wand meowing over their victory!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Give them space. If they want to stay under the bed or in their safe hiding place, then I’ll respect that. Body language and energy is something I’m very in tune with. I once read that cats are our biggest lesson in consent, and it’s 100% accurate. Sometimes shy kitties might need special treatments like medications, so not only will I do my best to help them feel comfortable by being a calming presence, I will follow every instruction you provide to a T.

Rachel was amazing! 🤩 she did everything as requested, arrived on the days hired for, left everything as it should be, sent picture updates on my cats. My extrovert cat adored her, and my introvert cat accepted her presence gracefully. 🤣 Would definitely hire her again, if needed. Five stars, do recommend. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Rachel is a trustworthy, beautiful being, and me and my kitties felt her wonderful energy the moment we met her. Her communication was wonderful and it felt safe to be away knowing my feline family was in good hands. Rachel really went above and beyond cleaning after my kitties, playing with them, sending sweet photos, and making sure their bellies were full. I highly recommend her, and she will be my go-to for kitty care when me and the family are away. Thanks Rachel ❤️

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Cohoes cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
