What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I’ve been caring for cats for over 30 years, both as a lifelong cat owner and through dedicated cat sitting for friends, colleagues, and clients. Over time, I’ve looked after cats of all ages and temperaments — from energetic kittens to seniors, as well as shy or more sensitive personalities. I’m comfortable administering oral and topical medications, maintaining detailed feeding routines, and ensuring litter and home care are handled thoughtfully and consistently. My experience has taught me how important patience and calm energy are, especially for cats who take time to warm up. Providing steady, attentive care is something I take seriously and genuinely enjoy.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
What I enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to know each cat’s unique personality. I love observing their subtle quirks — the way they communicate, play, or quietly seek connection in their own time. There’s something special about earning a shy cat’s trust or maintaining a steady routine that helps them feel secure while their person is away. I also appreciate the peaceful rhythm of in-home visits and being able to provide calm, attentive care in a way that truly supports both the cat and their owner. It’s meaningful to know I’m helping create a low-stress experience for everyone involved.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
When working with a new cat parent, I like to begin with a meet-and-greet whenever possible. This gives us a chance to review your cat’s routine, feeding schedule, litter preferences, medication needs, and any behavioral quirks or sensitivities. It also allows your cat to become familiar with me in a low-pressure way. Before visits begin, I confirm all care instructions in writing, including your preferred veterinarian and emergency contacts. During each visit, I follow your established routine closely and provide thoughtful updates with photos. Clear communication, attention to detail, and respect for your home are priorities throughout the process.

Katherine cared for Tawny beautifully, sent us photos daily and arrived on time. She also sent us a text update. She went above and beyond when she arrived and there was a puff back from the furnace, resulting in clouds of smokey soot. She called the fire dept and waited while they dealt with it, keeping us informed along the way. If she hadn't arrived on time and taken these actions, we might have been dealing with a far more serious issue.

Kate is an excellent cat-sitter & I would happily have her care for my kitty again. She cat-sat & house sat for two weeks in my New Paltz home with my senior kitty who has multiple health issues requiring special medication & a multi step process for feeding. Upon return, my kitty was happy, faring well, & my home was very clean & well cared for! My houseplants were also doing great! I definitely recommend hiring Kate to care for your fur-babies.

She has a warm and gentle presence which they both responded to immediately. She’s reliable and responsible with all pet duties (food, water, litter) in addition to being attentive and loving to my cats.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

New Paltz cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
