Cat Sitting By Alex

I'm Alex

Cat Sitting in Albany, OR

Hi! I'm Alex. From a childhood spent on a farm to caring for my own kitties, I'm an animal lover through and through. I found a special love of cats after taking in a stray as a child. We became stuck together like glue! I've cared for so many cats in my lifetime and each one was their own little creature. My own cats adore being snuggled, and they particularly love a good face rub. I like to joke that any cat that spends enough time with me becomes a bit of a teddy bear, and with enough trust I'm able to touch paws, tummies, tails, and ears... Hi! I like to joke that any cat that spends enough time with me becomes a bit of a teddy bear, and with enough trust I'm able to touch paws, tummies, tails, and ears. Most of my cat sitting experience recently involves caring for a diabetic cat and his siblings, so I'm well versed in administering glucose tests and insulin shots on him. I'm also able to get him to take oral and topical medicines that his mom struggles with, though each cat has their own particularities about certain medicines. Topicals are easy, and I can usually do oral pastes and pills without too much trouble but it depends on the kitty.

My favorite part of cat sitting is meeting all the kitties and getting to know each one. If you'd like me to care for your little criminal or fuzzy goober, I'd be delighted to do so!

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been cat sitting on and off for at least a decade. Most of my more professional experience has been with a specific diabetic cat and his various siblings, but I've cared for a wide variety of kitties.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two kitties right now. Their names are Chell and Layla. Chell is a little orange gremlin with a tiny squeaky voice and no concept of her own limits, while Layla is a calm and dainty lady who also loves to yell in our shower at any time of the day or night.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

My primary focus when working with a cat parent I haven't met before is to make sure I understand what their routine usually looks like. Cats love to know what to expect, and I try to replicate that as well as I can so I can make them as comfortable as possible. I like to learn about how the cats like their pets, where their safe spots are, who needs to be fed first and where, and anything else that can help me care for them the best I can. I will also ask the cat parents questions about managing the house while they're gone. Which locks need to be locked when I'm away from the house? Are the cats allowed outside, and are there specific requirements? Is the heat or air conditioning on its own schedule, or should I manage that as well? What about emergency contacts? Nearby vets?

Alex has cared for 4 of my cats several times over the past few years. Alex is intuitive and kind, meeting each of my cats in a way that is comfortable for them. I have a chatty Bengal who is always excited when Alex arrives and they end up on the floor immediately so kitty gets a good tummy rub & all the attention he craves. Another of my cats was always skittish and hid. Alex was respectful of kitty's boundaries and still ensured he got fed, even if that meant feeding him under the bed. One of my cats is diabetic and Alex is a pro at making him comfortable, completing his blood test to get his blood sugar & administering his insulin injection - always communicating clearly & promptly with me if there are questions about his insulin dosage. Alex has also given oral meds to one of my cats for me. Alex is patient, kind and engaging with my cats - as well as reliable & trustworthy. I would highly recommend them for your cat sitting needs.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
