As a cat sitter, one of the most important skills to have when interacting with animals is the ability to read body language. I have two eight-year-old cats so I’m very well acquainted with how a cat presents when it’s happy and relaxed versus when it’s angry, stressed, or ill.

As a cat sitter, one of the most important skills to have when interacting with animals is the ability to read body language. I have two eight-year-old cats so I’m very well acquainted with how a cat presents when it’s happy and relaxed versus when it’s angry, stressed, or ill.
Patience is the skill I consider second most important when meeting new cats because they have their own timelines on how they like to do things :) My goal during the initial interaction with a new cat is for them to understand they’re safe around me, and then build a trusting relationship with continued time spent together.
With regards to the fun aspects of cat-sitting, I love playing with them and watching their personalities shine. My own cats love to play fetch, something I haven’t seen from other cats I’ve met and over the years, I’ve learned multiple ways that they differ from each other. These kinds of things make it fun to get to know your little cutie pies.
I always treat other animals as if they were my own because I understand for a lot of people, their pets are their children and are equally as loved.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have two beautiful girls, part Maine-coon, part tabby (I think) named Sasha and Sonya. They’re sisters and they both have their own personalities. One is a little sly and very smart (and loves to be the center of attention) and the other is a big old fluff ball that loves to play games.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Look for someone who has either owned cats or spends a lot of time around them in some capacity. You can learn so much just by co-existing with them.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
My own cats are fairly anxious around strangers so I know it can be difficult to socialize with them to fulfill their needs while also respecting boundaries. I always read body language to understand how a cat is feeling and I find after a few times of feeding it (as many pet owners may know, food is a great reason to like a human) and speaking to it kindly, they warm up to me.

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.
