When I was little, one of my favorite books was “How To Coddle Your Cat” and I read it front to back every day. When providing attention, every cat has its own special routine. To me, it’s important to learn each cat’s personality and to take things at their pace. I'm very patient and fun-loving, I have experience administering oral pills, topical ointments, and eye and ear drops, and I love to send daily pictures and text message updates.

I’m vaccinated and boosted against covid, and my schedule is flexible since I work hybrid and most frequently from home. When I am called to work onsite or if I have other engagements, I can make sure to provide notice beforehand.

Cats can be a handful sometimes, but they are the highlight of my day to work with and to care for. If your cats have any special needs, please let me know and I will write instructions on my phone during the meet and greet to properly take care of your feline friend.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love getting to know different cats and earning their trust! When I was pretty young, I realized that cats are often quite misunderstood as pets and that many people dislike having to be quiet or don’t learn things about cat body language or their common behaviors, like how they prefer to hide to feel safe and that they also hide illness and injury for the same reason, or how they prefer to be approached from the side rather than walked at straight on. Approaching cats at their own pace and making them feel safe and happy is a wonderful reward, and learning any things to avoid to help them be more comfortable is just part of the process!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

There are two. The first was this cat for an owner who just moved to town and had barely furnished the apartment except for a bed and some cat toys. That cat was sweet and talkative - all she wanted was a little food and as many cuddles as possible! At the time, I knew someone who had spare cat supplies like food, a cat bed, and extra toys, so I brought them to the owner’s apartment as a housewarming gift. The second was this small senior cat who hid sometimes and did not move around much. She had a urinary issue while I was there, so I cleaned up after her on the plastic where she had her accidents every day with warm water and vinegar. Not daunting at all, and I was happy that I earned the little old lady’s trust and affection.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

For those who have questions about what reservation to select, please see below 👇 Things that might require longer visits: you have 3 cats or more, your kitties need special treatment or food, there are daily medications they take. - If you are unsure how much time to schedule, time yourself going through your care routine (feeding, watering, cleaning litter boxes, and medicating if necessary). - If your kitties like a lot of attention, are shy and need time to warm up first, or you will be gone for an extended trip, make sure there is enough cushion for some play time and cuddles along with the care routine. - Giving medications may be stressful for your kitties, so some buffer time can help them get comfortable. - If your cat has a special diet and can't be left with food out, make sure there is time for your cat to eat.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to ask a few questions upfront to determine a general idea of you and your cat’s needs - schedule, accessing your home, your cat’s personality, food and medications, and safety. Afterwards, we can schedule a meet and greet so I can get to know you and your little furry friend(s) ahead of when I’ll be visiting. It’s also a good opportunity to learn where your cat’s supplies are, to show me any medications they need to take, to identify where cleaning items are located, and to go over any emergency protocols so that I know how to keep your cat safe.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I have mixed availability for holidays, please feel free to reach out and ask! The earlier you book, the more likely it will be a possibility. If my status is listed as unavailable during a holiday, that usually means I'm fully booked. I do try to accommodate returning clients as much as possible during busy season. I typically reach out with a heads up before closing reservations.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I love a good cat wand! They seem to be the favorite for almost every cat I’ve taken care of, and it’s so cute watching them play-hunt with them!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Cats that are timid or nervous need a quiet, gentle approach. I make a point to ask about things that are part of their routine: if there’s a broom and dustpan I can use rather than a loud vacuum to avoid startling them, if they have any favorite hiding spots that I can check (rather than forcing them to come out), if they like any specific treats. I enjoy earning a shy cat’s trust just as much as cuddling a sociable kitty, and it’s very satisfying to see them open up to me.

Kodi did a phenomenal job watching out for our kitties. She took tons of notes when we met before we left that made me feel super comfortable with leaving our kitties under her care. She kept us updated with photos and notes the entire time she visited with the cats which took such a load off our minds while we were out of town. Knowing our cats were expertly cared for while we were gone was such a great experience.

Kodi was very conscientious and took great care of Theo. We worked through the complicated access to my space together, and she was very patient about setting it up. I appreciated the video confirmation and timely text responses, and she was able to administer meds without issue. I wouldn't hesitate to book Kodi again!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Richmond cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
