I'm Esme

Cat Sitting in Omro, WI

Hello there!

My name is Esme, I'm a freshman at UW–Madison, looking to be a familiar friend to your cat or cats. I've lived with cats my entire life, and I'm currently trying to find multiple methods of still having the presence of a kitty with me, while being away from home. (If it helps to credit my love and understanding for cats, my first ever word as a baby was "kitty," because I loved our cats so much as home ☺️.)

I'm hoping to care for cats as a flexible opportunity, alongside managing my studies, and also wanting to hop onto volunteering at the Madison Cat Project. I am experienced with all ages and types of cats, I am familiar with feeding schedules, play, and understanding the cat body language...

I am experienced with all ages and types of cats, I am familiar with feeding schedules, play, and understanding the cat body language. I am also able to train cats for things such as wearing collars or tricks. During sittings, I can change water dishes, refill or reset food bowls, clean up any messes (whether than be any bodily fluids or just be toys or loose food scattered about), litterbox resets, getting to know your cat, and let them get acclimated to my presence. Whether or not I am a returning sitter for you, I know all the things and will be kind and caring to your pet, but also your living space. I am also open to cleaning anything else outside of just pet-stuff, maintaining plants, setting out or reseting garbages, getting mail, etc.! I will supply photos of your pets when I sit, and give periodic updates, depending on how long my stay is.

Right now, my schedule is wide open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays if we exclude study time. My Monday thru Thursday afternoons are typically open as well, but things are bound to come up, so I prefer to work on days I'm 100% otherwise off from classes.

Learn More About Esme

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I most enjoy being able to just see a new face and learn more about how each cat is their unique self. Even while I've seen many different types of cats, it's always interesting to see a new personality in person. There's always a quirk within each cat, and it may take time to see that quirk, but the wait is what makes sitting best.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I do! In my hometown, I have two domestic tabby boys who are littermates. They've just turned 7 this August, and it feels crazy to think it's been that long. One's name is Tiger, and the other's is Rain. The way I like to differentiate between the two cats is mainly through their coat markings. Tiger has little socks on all four paws, and has a white chest, where Rain has no white spots outside of a little bit on his upper maw. Rain is also a little bit more people-shy, where Tiger is open to making friends. Rain is a lot more cuddly, and Tiger's an "only-cuddle-me-on-my-own-terms" cat ☺️. Despite their differences, they both like to battle it out like brothers every so often, running around our house and nipping (but playing) at each other. They love cat treats, and it can be told through their big bodies!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

While the cats I've always had have been very social, since we've gotten them since they were kittens, my kitty Rain tends to be a little anxious despite that (and plus, I've encountered some other not-so-social and anxious kitties). I always make sure to keep space but be in the same room as them (if they can handle it), so they can come to me on their own terms if they so choose. And if the cat doesn't want me in the room, that's okay too, I can either stay near the entrance of the home as not to disrupt their safe spaces, or can move to a large/generalized area where there's still a lot of space inbetween us. I let cats come to me any time I first meet a cat, and especially with timid cats, I don't immediately go and pet them until they give a sniff and approve.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
