Calm Attentive Care For Your Cat

I'm Tim

Cat Sitting in Los Angeles, CA

I’ve been professionally cat sitting for over six years. One of my favorite things about the job is getting to know all the different personalities cats can have. Every cat is unique, and I love learning who they are, what they like, and what makes them feel safe and comfortable.

I’m especially good with shy or fearful cats. I have a naturally calm, gentle, and unhurried demeanor, and I don’t expect a cat to trust me right off the bat. I let them set the pace. Sometimes that means sitting quietly nearby and letting them decide when they’re ready to come say hello. I’ve had several owners warn me, “He doesn’t like strangers and will probably hide under the bed the whole time you’re here,” only to have that same cat playing and cuddling with me by the second day.

And if a cat would rather keep their distance, that’s completely fine too. I don’t force affection. I want cats to feel comfortable being themselves in their own homes, whether that means sitting in my lap, chasing a toy around the room, following me everywhere, or observing me suspiciously from across the room...

And if a cat would rather keep their distance, that’s completely fine too. I don’t force affection. I want cats to feel comfortable being themselves in their own homes, whether that means sitting in my lap, chasing a toy around the room, following me everywhere, or observing me suspiciously from across the room.

I have extensive experience with multi-cat households, including cats with very different personalities, feeding routines, medications, and medical needs. I’ve also cared for picky eaters and cats who need a little extra encouragement to eat.

I’m very comfortable administering medications, including meds mixed into food, topical creams, ear medication, eye drops, and subcutaneous fluids. I’m attentive to changes in a cat’s behavior, appetite, litter box habits, or routine, and I’ll always check in with you if something seems unusual or I’m unsure about something.

I make a point of spending plenty of time with the cats I’m caring for: playing with them, giving them attention and affection, or just being an unintrusive presence in the room, depending on what each cat enjoys. I want them to have company, attention, and stimulation throughout the day, not just their food and litter taken care of.

I specialize in overnight stays. I work from home much of the time, so an overnight stay generally means your cats get plenty of company during the day as well as someone there overnight. I’m happy to communicate as much or as little as you prefer, and love sending photos of your cats while you’re away if that’s something you’d like. I’m also happy to water plants, bring in mail and packages, take out the trash, and handle the usual little things around the house.

My goal is for your cats to feel safe, happy, comfortable, and genuinely cared for while you’re gone… and for you to come home to cats who seem like they’ve had a pretty good vacation of their own!

Learn More About Tim

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love getting to know cats as individuals. It never fails to delight me how different every cat can be. I’ve cared for cuddly cats, grumpy cats, energetic cats, sedentary cats, mischievous cats, clumsy cats, prideful cats, needy cats, solitary cats, social cats, and more, and each was lovable in their own way. I really enjoy figuring out each cat’s personality and learning what makes them comfortable and happy.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Whenever possible, I prefer to do a (complimentary!) in-person meet & greet in your home. This way I have a chance to meet your cat(s) with you present, have you walk me through their feeding routines, medication procedures, etc, and ask you any questions I may have about how best to care for them. Once I’m there, I try to follow their normal routine as closely as possible. I pay attention to how they’re behaving rather than assuming everything will go exactly according to plan, and I’ll always ask if something comes up that I’m unsure about. I’m happy to communicate frequently or just check in occasionally, depending on what you prefer.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I don’t treat a timid cat like a problem that needs to be solved. My first priority is making them feel safe, so I’m happy to give a cat plenty of space and let them decide when they’re ready to interact with me. Getting down to their level can help. Sometimes I’ll sit nearby and talk to them or play with a toy without trying to touch them, and sometimes the best thing I can do is simply leave them alone for a while. I’m very attentive to the way cats communicate openness or hesitancy through body language and behavior, and I try to follow their lead. Usually by establishing myself as a calm, unthreatening presence, most cats will eventually warm up to me. I don’t expect every cat to become cuddly though. If a cat is happiest keeping their distance, I’m perfectly happy to respect that too.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Los Angeles cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $36.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
