I'm Melanie

Cat Sitting in Los Angeles, CA

👋 I’m Melanie.

TL;DR version:
I have over a decade of pet sitting experience under my belt, 8 (years) of which have been professionally. I’m currently getting my certification in Feline & Canine Nutrition. Many of my kitty clients are seniors and/or have special needs. I’m able to give oral, topical and injectable medication as well as SubQ fluids and inhalers.

Please read on to find out more details about me, the experience I have and important info you will need to know!

I’ve been a cat lady ever since I can remember. My best friend as a toddler was my mom's siamese, Mitzi.

I had to say goodbye to the love of my life — a tuxedo named Maxwell Wellington on 12/6/20. I found him as a young adult stray September 2006. He had hyperthyroidism, IBD, chronic pancreatitis/EPI, hip dysplasia and cognitive dysfunction (kitty dementia). Because of this, I am skilled in administering various types of medication including subcutaneous fluids and B12 shots.

Because of my attention to detail, experience and knowledge, I’ve been able to help kitty parents get their cats diagnosed properly...

He had hyperthyroidism, IBD, chronic pancreatitis/EPI, hip dysplasia and cognitive dysfunction (kitty dementia). Because of this, I am skilled in administering various types of medication including subcutaneous fluids and B12 shots.

Because of my attention to detail, experience and knowledge, I’ve been able to help kitty parents get their cats diagnosed properly. Cats are known for keeping their ailments a secret for as long as they can. Noticing tiny shifts in their behavior, weight or personality is key to getting a proper diagnosis early. I’ve helped pet parents get their babies diagnosed properly with IBD, pancreatitis, diabetes and asthma.

I volunteered for years with a LA based cat rescue. This allowed me to help socialize and care for many different types of cats as well as personality types. I am happy to say I’ve been called a cat whisper on multiple occasions as I’ve been able to get typically shy and anxious cats to trust me. 🥰

CURRENT & PAST KITTIES INCLUDE:
*multiple kitties with kidney failure (subcutaneous fluids and b12 shots administered)
*kitties with congestive heart failure (oral meds)
*kitty with mega colon (multiple oral meds twice daily; special diet)
*kitties with pancreatitis, IBS & IBD (meds, special diets)
*kitties with asthma (inhalers required)
*kitties with various cancers (some on chemo)
*diabetic kitties (insulin injections twice daily)
*blind kitty with a heart condition (oral meds twice daily)
*multiple cats with thyroid conditions (oral/topical meds daily)
*partially blind & partially deaf cat (oral meds, eye drops)

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
*I respond to messages and requests btwn 10a-8p so if you send one outside of those hours, i will get back to you the following day.
-
*Generally, I require at least 5 days notice. I understand emergencies happen and no one can control that. If that's the case, please send me a message *prior* to putting in a booking request and I will do my best to help.
-
*For medication administration: if you require set times, message me *prior* to sending a request to see if I can accommodate the timing.
-
*If you are in the "Second Service Area," I'm only able to fulfill "anytime visits" which means it's based on my schedule and availability. I cannot commit to morning or evening visits in these areas at this time.
-
*If you are a previous client and do not see availability, message me.
-
*If you need morning or evening visits but just once a day, please send me a message *prior to sending a booking request.* My calendar will show availability if I’m not at maximum capacity for the day *but* I may be at capacity for mornings or evening slots. I’ll always do my best to help when I can.
-
*Please alert me when booking if your cat(s) has any contagious diseases such as FIV, herpes or ringworm. This will not deter me from taking you as a client. I’m with multiple cats daily so knowing this information is vital so I can take extra steps to keep every cat safe.
-
*If your cat is indoor / outdoor, I will keep him or her inside during our visits. Murphy’s law hits hard when parents aren’t around. This is for the safety of your cat. There are absolutely no exceptions.

I hope to meet you and your fur babies!

I was nervous about leaving my 14 year old momma’s boy home alone with a sitter for the first time. I am beyond grateful that i found Melanie to watch him! I felt like she really payed attention to him and his needs and gave me amazing updates and advice that made it a relief to leave him in the hands of someone who actually cared about him. If I ever have to leave him alone again, I won’t have to worry about where to look!

Melanie was superb. Our shy scaredy cats warmed up to her and ended up loving her. We have a sick cat who needed multiple daily medications and Melanie had no difficulty giving them, which is a miracle in and of itself. If you care about attention to detail, detailed daily or twice daily updates and adorable photos/videos, hire Melanie. It was a huge relief during our vacation to know that our babies were so well cared for.

I have a lot of anxiety about leaving my cats behind, especially since my older one has both diabetes and kidney disease. But Melanie was the most reassuring and capable sitter I could have asked for, a total pro at giving them their meds, and sent me detailed updates each time she visited them. She has a great rapport with cats (and worried cat parents--she's a lovely person in general!). I would absolutely hire her again the next time I'm out of town, because I know my cats will be so well looked after AND thrilled to see her again!

Melanie was top notch with our two Bengal boys, making sure they got lots of playtime and love! They're extra picky and Melanie took the time to make sure they both got what they needed for each day! We definitely will be booking her again!

Melanie is great! while we were away, Melanie helped with administering subcutaneous fluids to our cat with kidney problems which is no easy task. it was comforting for us to know that our cat was in great hands. Melanie is detailed and thorough and we’d trust her to care for our fur baby again.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Los Angeles cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $34.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
