In addition to my personal experience, I have also worked professionally in animal care. I spent a year as a kennel technician, where I learned how to balance attentive care with a calm, steady demeanor; and I have been a freelance cat sitter for neighbors and friends since July 2024... Hi there! My name is Lazarus (he/they pronouns), a DC-area cat sitter primarily serving the Cleveland/Woodley Park and Eastern Market areas. I have been a cat lover and owner for over 30 years. Since childhood, cats have always been a part of my life, and I cannot imagine a home without them! Over the years, I have cared for cats with a wide range of personalities, ages, and needs — from energetic and talkative cats who love playtime to those who value personal space and a more quiet human presence, as well as cats with health conditions.
In addition to my personal experience, I have also worked professionally in animal care. I spent a year as a kennel technician, where I learned how to balance attentive care with a calm, steady demeanor; and I have been a freelance cat sitter for neighbors and friends since July 2024. Through this work, I have become skilled in administering medications, including oral meds, inhalers, and injections. I know how important it is to follow an owner’s instructions to the letter, and I pride myself on clear communication, dependability, and treating every cat as if they were my own.
What sets me apart as a sitter is my ability to adapt to each cat’s unique personality. Some cats love constant play, some prefer quiet companionship, and some need a little extra patience to feel comfortable. I respect their boundaries while still making sure they feel safe, cared for, and loved. Owners with shy cats have told me that their pets warm up to me quickly because I always let them take the lead and respect their boundaries.
My favorite part of cat sitting is receiving those little moments of trust — a slow blink, a head bump, or a cat who decides my lap is a good place for a nap. Being able to provide that comfort while giving owners peace of mind is what makes this work so rewarding.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been freelance cat sitting for neighbors and friends since July 2024. I have cared for a variety of cats, including single- and multiple-cat households, as well as for cats with medical needs.
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
My favorite client is a cat named Gus. He is a 4-year-old orange forever-baby who lives for play time. He especially likes hiding under the couch and playing with a feather toy at the same time, as well as catnip. He makes me laugh so much!

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:
- January 1-4: New Year's 2026
- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th
- September 4-10: Labor Day
- October 9-15: Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day
- November 8-14: Veterans Day
- November 23-29: Thanksgiving

- December 29-31: New Year's 2027

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Washington cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $28.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

My elderly, antisocial cat comes running when Laz comes to the door! They are responsible, punctual, and spend more time playing with my cat than I do! They have no trouble giving my cat her medications and making sure she is well taken care of.
