Learn More About Tonya

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have over 30 years of hands-on experience caring for cats through rescue work, fostering, and personal care. Throughout that time, I’ve worked with cats of all ages, temperaments, and backgrounds, including shy, senior, and rescue cats. I also have experience caring for cats with special needs, including diabetic cats and those requiring medication, so I’m very comfortable providing attentive, detail-oriented care. My approach to cat sitting is based on understanding feline behavior and reading their cues, which helps me build trust and keep them calm and comfortable in their own environment. While my background comes from years of rescue and in-home care, I bring that same level of dedication and reliability to every cat sitting visit.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Cats all have their own little attitudes and routines, and I love getting to know what makes each one comfortable and happy. Whether it’s playtime or just quiet company, I enjoy being someone they can trust while you’re away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! I have a multi-cat household, including Alex and Jack. They’re all indoor-only and love hanging out in the Florida room—watching lizards like it’s TV and soaking up the sun.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I would say to see how their cat reacts to them and see if they would be a good fit. Some cats will be a little shy at first, but they should warm up to the person so you will both be comfortable when you aren't home.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I would ask information about the cat, what they like and what they don't and if there are any medical issues I need to be aware of. I would keep a notebook with me so I can refer back to it.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I am super careful with my own cats and make sure no one ever goes outside. I would do the same when I cat sit.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I do offer holiday availability. I recommend booking in advance, as those dates tend to fill quickly.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I have a multi cat house. Some like the laser light because it's automatic and spins around. Some like balls to chase around but everyone's favorite is always cat nip paws down their favorite and I like to watch them being silly after they eat and roll in it.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I would talk softly to them . I would sing a silly song. I have found some calming kitty music on You tube and mine like that while we are in the waiting room waiting for the vet to come see them. The vet said it's a great idea also so I see what works best for each cat.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
