However I understand every cat is unique in personality: some are shy and need space, while others want lots of pets and playtime. I take what clients say about what their cat needs seriously... Hello! I'm a life-long ailurophile offering services as a cat sitter for homes in neighborhoods near me (Edgewater, Andersonville, Rogers Park, Uptown, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, Lakeview, etc.).
My adoration for and understanding of cats has made me especially apt at making quick friends with most kitties. However I understand every cat is unique in personality: some are shy and need space, while others want lots of pets and playtime. I take what clients say about what their cat needs seriously. As a freelance technical writer and editor, I am highly detail oriented and will follow any instructions to the letter. 😺
My time caring for my own beloved senior cat Lux involved administering various meds (liquids/pills/ointments) and subcutaneous fluids, so I'm comfortable taking care of kitties who need meds.
I don't see this as a job so much as an opportunity to do one of my favorite things in life, spend time with cats. 😻

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been cat sitting for 4 years, first through my network of friends and family, and then through Meowtel. 😸
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
I will arrange a quick meet-and-greet so we can meet and I can get to know your cat(s) and hear from you firsthand exactly how you'd like me to spend each visit, e.g., feeding, watering, litter box, play, treats, medicines, etc. I will ask many questions and take thorough notes.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes, this year I'm around through all the holidays, as I am most years. I usually travel during non-holiday periods.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I am very familiar with feline body language and respecting kitty boundaries. To start I let timid cats sniff my hand to see if they are interested in pets. For very shy cats I build trust over the course of visits by sitting nearby with treats and talking to them in a gentle tone. I never force anything.

Emily clearly cares deeply about cats and went above and beyond to take care of mine. I have three cats, each with different levels of shyness, and she did a wonderful job with all of them. I had to make some last-minute changes to my reservation due to a medical issue with one of my cats, which Emily took very seriously and handled the situation with care. She was communicative during her visits, which gave me real peace of mind. I’m very grateful to have had someone so attentive and compassionate looking after my cats when I couldn’t be there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
