What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been catsitting since I was a teenager (26 now!) and have had many cats in my life over the years. I have had wonderful experiences cat sitting, and still frequently do so for friends and for my partner’s 3 cats. I have experience catsitting for elderly cats and cats who require medication and other special care.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I have always adored spending time with cats. I love the way they think, play, how mischevious and silly they are, the list could go on! I am the type of person who finds a lot of fulfillment in spending time with animals, I hope your cats don’t mind me asking how their day was.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
My partner has two incredibly timid cats that I’ve recently developed trust with (enough that they come out of hiding to say hi to me!), and I’ve learned a few tricks from this experience. Being mindful of how I’m moving is a huge one — heavy footsteps, doors shutting, etc. can all be really scary for a cat, so I try to be extra mindful about my presence and body language. Eye contact is another thing that can feel threatening to cats, so sometimes it’s best to avoid it directly. Listening for subtle cues of their needs is huge with timid cats. I won’t pet them until they ask for it, but I will absolutely be responsive when they do!

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
