Hello, everyone!

Thank you so much for taking a moment to browse my profile today. My name is Brooke.

I am a student of Veterinary Technology with Penn Foster, and a student with Oakton College, currently pursuing my Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a focus on Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Most recently, I graduated with my Associate's Degree of General Studies with Moraine Valley Community College.

I am an experienced veterinary technician servicing Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. My typical day includes a plethora of tasks, such as assisting the doctors with their treatment plans for our patients, completing diagnostic bloodwork, administering vaccines or microchips, preparing vaccine certificates, anesthetic charting/monitoring, and many more clinical applications. Through my work as a veterinary professional, I strive to be a protector for animals and a source of comfort for their owners.

My long term goal is to eventually earn my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, focusing on a speciality in Veterinary Ophthalmology. I strive to dedicate myself to a career in animal sanctuary.

I have been on Meowtel for almost 3 years, and it continues to be the most fulfilling work in my entire career. It is my greatest joy to be there for the cats of Chicago.

I am double certified in Animal Behaviour & Welfare as well as in specialty Chicken Behaviour & Welfare through the University of Edinburgh, and have over 15 years of experience caring for domesticated house pets and farm animals.

As of October 2023, I am Fear Free Certified.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little more about me, and I look forward to meeting soon.

Learn More About Brooke

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I began cat sitting professionally upon onboarding with Meowtel in October of 2021. Through my work as a veterinary nurse in general practice and urgent care hospitals, I continue to develop hands-on clinical skills through my experiences assisting veterinarians. With previous Meowtel clients, I have been able to provide assistance in the administration of subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injectable medications, as well as oral and topical medications. This may look like assisting with subcutaneous fluid management, or insulin therapy.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is the opportunity to help families when they need it most. Whether I am providing care over a holiday, or stepping in to ensure a client can make an important family trip, it is my greatest honor to provide care for cats and peace of mind for their owners.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite Meowtel reservation was with a wonderful cat named Donatella. Donatella was a special needs kitty who required an oral medication for a heart condition, as well as subcutaneous fluids for management of her kidney disease. Every time I came to visit, Donatella would pop out from beneath her favorite blankets, always snuggling away on chilly winter days. When I would give her medicine, she would give me nudges on my nose with her face, always seeming so grateful to be cared for. Afterwards, she would race me to the kitchen for her meals, always excited to know it came after her medicine. My experience with Donatella was my first time being afforded the opportunity to provide hands-on care with fluids in-home for a client, and informed my sense of confidence going forward with providing that same care for others in the future.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I have one cat of my own. His name is Karl, named after Karl Lagerfeld.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

For optimal peace of mind, I always encourage prospective clients to look for a care provider with veterinary experience. In this way, your pet is provided specialized care, ensuring an ideal experience tailored to focusing on your cat’s health, comfort, and wellness while you're away.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

With each new cat parent I meet, I always begin with a brief correspondence through the Meowtel chat. Once our bookings are confirmed, I like to extend my personal contact information, followed by arranging our Meet & Greet. During our Meet & Greet, we will discuss any unique needs your feline may have, as well as all other necessary general care instructions to ensure the best experience possible during our reservations together.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Safety and security are paramount in my approach to providing in-home care as an experienced veterinary nurse. As a Fear Free Certified veterinary technician, I take a tactical approach to every situation, taking care to manage all necessary hands-on applications in the best way for both the pet as well as the pet parent. Security of the home is ensured through a tailored partnership between myself, property owners, and their management to maintain constant security of any keys, codes, or other authorization access that may be provided to me throughout the duration of our reservations together.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am available on-demand 365 days a year, 7 days a week. Please feel warmly welcome to message me directly to discuss how I may be of immediate assistance to you and your felines.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I personally enjoy cat-nip toys, as well as scratching boards, as I find most felines engage very well with these types of enrichment.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

As a Fear Free Certified Veterinary Technician, I prioritize a cat’s emotional and physical well-being. For timid or anxious cats, I use low-stress handling techniques, including gentle movements and soft voices, to create a calm environment. I take time to allow them to acclimate to their surroundings at their own pace, providing positive reinforcement like treats or affection when they feel comfortable. This approach builds trust and reduces stress, helping your cat feel safe, secure, and at ease during my visits. In cases where medication administration may be necessary, I may also implement the use of helpful tools such as a blanket or a towel wrap ("purrito"), a cat bag, or stress-reducing pheromones, such as Feliway mist. I will always consult with owners prior to proceeding with the implementation of any tools for medication administration.

Brooke did a fantastic job taking care of my two cats for two weeks. Leaving them for so long was stressful, but Brooke's professionalism and exceptional care gave me complete peace of mind. Brooke was able to connect with my cats, who are usually quite shy. She was very patient and made sure they felt comfortable during every visit. By the end of the two weeks, both cats had opened up to her more and she was able to pet them! Brooke also handled giving one of my cats an inhaler during each visit, which is not always easy. Brooke ensured the medication was given while prioritizing keeping my cat as calm as possible. Her communication was outstanding. She sent incredibly thorough daily updates, complete with videos of the cats and everything she did during her visits. She was always very responsive to my messages and communicated clearly and promptly. I highly recommend Brooke to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and deeply caring cat sitter, especially if your pets require a little extra patience or medical attention!

Brooke was a godsend! I have two special needs kitties, including a recently diagnosed diabetic who required twice-daily insulin and a special diet, and Brooke was able to accommodate me on very short notice. She clearly loves her work and is so thorough and so kind with the animals. She gave me incredibly detailed updates each day, which was much appreciated while I was out of the country. I felt so much better knowing my girls were in great hands :)

I hired Brooke to help me with giving my very spicy kitty anxiety meds at home ahead of a vet visit. She was so accomodating, patient, kind, and courageous in handling my cat (Brooke’s words “maybe new spiciest kitty” client 😅). She is clearly very passionate about cats and treating them with utmost respect even when they are behaving hotter than the hinges on the gates to hell. Highly recommend her!

Having to leave for even a short trip with a newly diagnosed diabetic cat needing twice daily insulin and monitoring and three other cats who are crazy shy, right after all 5 of us just moved cross country, should have been absolutely terrifying, had I not found Brooke on here. She’s a highly skilled veterinary nurse, fantastic with cats, extremely communicative, sends lots of videos and photos to keep me in the loop, super trustworthy and just a fun sweet person overall. So relieved to have her as a resource. Thank you again, Brooke! ❤️🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Skokie cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
