What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have had a cat in my family almost my entire life. I am very comfortable with cats and have done cat sitting for friends, family and clients throughout my adult life. I have done cat sitting professionally for almost two years.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I have taken care of cats (and dogs) of friends, neighbors and family many times. I think the best thing about the experience is getting to see all the different personalities of each of the animals. Just like people, they each bring so much to the table and they make life (and the time spent with them) so much more enjoyable.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I currently have one, Norrie. He is our big boy who loves to snuggle, eat and sleep on his back with his big paws all up in the air. I often call him my puppy kitty because he is very much a cat, but also adores belly rubs and, at times, follows me everywhere in the house. (I also have a chihuahua that I call my kitty puppy because he likes to groom himself and actually wanted to use the litterbox when we first rescued him.) The neighbor’s cat has even adopted us on a part-time basis. His name is Blackie.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
My son got a kitten for the first time a few years ago. I have been able to help him make good decisions and calm him down when he would get worried about the various health problems she’s had. His cat, Baby Kitty, only likes her owners and usually hides whenever anyone comes over to care for her or visit. However, whenever I cared for her, she followed me wherever I went. I spoke to her quietly the entire time I was there. She wouldn’t let me pet her, but my son said that was so huge that she stayed near me.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I am very careful to watch that cats are nowhere near doors when I enter or exit to ensure they don’t get outside. I also watch when they are around me to be sure to not step on their paws. I clean up messes and discard open wet food containers quickly so they won’t hurt themselves on the sharp edges of the lids. I also am careful of what cleaning products are used when they are near.
Are you usually available during holidays?
I am usually available on or around most holidays except Christmas Day. That is a family day where I want to be present with them.
What is your favorite cat toy?
My favorite cat toy is probably the fishing pole type of toys with the stick, string and items attached to the string or stick. Cats seem to really enjoy them. Laser pointers can be fun, but I’ve also seen cats get frustrated with them.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I don’t push myself on cats. I generally will talk calmly while I do things in the house and not make sudden moves. I also sit down on the floor in the same room with them, but not right by them. If I’m told that the cat likes toys, I will present the toy to the cat from a distance. If they refuse any interaction, I simply sit quietly and let them decide whether they want to stay in the room with me or not. I don’t chase them down or corner them.

Joanna is absolutely amazing and so sweet! She has been checking in on my fur baby for the past year anytime I’m away from home, and I’ve always felt completely comfortable knowing my cat is in her care. What really stood out to me recently was how dependable and caring she is, even at the last minute. I had an unexpected overnight trip and noticed on my house cameras that I hadn’t seen my cat moving around all day. Of course, I immediately started worrying. I reached out to Joanna, and without hesitation, she was willing to stop by and check on her for me just to make sure everything was okay. Thankfully, my baby was perfectly fine! Joanna sent me a photo as soon as she arrived, which immediately put my mind at ease and allowed me to enjoy the rest of my trip without worrying. Joanna watched my two boys while I was away for a few days! My cats are normally a bit more stand offish and don’t often interact with people once they’ve been fed. However, they had a great time with Joanna, who found ways to play with them and provide interaction that met both of their personalities! She kept me up to date on everything going on with in detail messages and photos and was quick to ask questions when needed. We (Cowboy, Boots, Zoot / cats) couldn’t have asked for a better cat sitter. During a stretch of truly terrible freezing weather, she went above and beyond to make sure our three indoor/outdoor cats were safe, comfortable, and well cared for. She was incredibly attentive to their individual routines and needs, which gave us real peace of mind while we were away. On top of the excellent care she gave the cats, we really appreciated the extra attention she paid to the house during the cold—checking on things, keeping an eye out for any issues, and generally treating our home as if it were her own. Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Indianapolis cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Joanna is a true professional and we cannot recommend her enough! She took excellent care of our very shy cat making it possible for us to feel at ease traveling to visit my family. Joanna’s love for cats and her compassion for our cat made all the difference. We can't thank nor recommend Joanna enough for caring for our cat who is our whole world. Joanna has put us at ease because she is everything you would want in a cat sitter: she is creative getting our cat to engage with her toys, our cat interacts with Joanna instead of hiding as she did with every previous pet sitter (she loves Joanna's pets and massages), with each visit Joanna sends a summary, many photos, and videos. Had just arrived in Indy and had to go to Florida for some personal things that had to be done landlord at Airbnb then dropped on me I needed to get a sitter or something since animals were not allowed to be alone in the home. Found Meowtel and requested Joanna. Joanna accepted then reached out to have meet and greet and the next three days even in a snow storm I missed out on she came and visited my lonely kitty. Played with him, petted him (which he loves) and attended to food and litter etc. Joanna sent me updates every time she came over and pics of my boy which made it even better when updated. When it was her time to visit, I unfortunately had a maitence issue and Joanna contacted me immediately and waited until it was resolved that she could take care of my babies.
