Cat Sitting in Indianapolis, IN

I am an animal lover. To me, a house is not a home without a cat in it. I have had cats and dogs most of my life and I believe one of the best sounds in the world is a cat’s purr. I know how I love to see that my animals are happy and know others do as well. Meeting with you and your furry friends before taking care of them is a purr-fact way for us to all get acquainted, for me to understand any special care needs they have as well as you and your pet’s preferences and routines. I love to snuggle with animals and spend time playing with them while also making sure their water is clean, they have enough food and their litter boxes are cleaned each day.

Learn More About Joanna

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have had a cat in my family almost my entire life. I am very comfortable with cats and have done cat sitting for friends, family and clients throughout my adult life.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I have taken care of cats (and dogs) of friends, neighbors and family many times. I think the best thing about the experience is getting to see all the different personalities of each of the animals. Just like people, they each bring so much to the table and they make life (and the time spent with them) so much more enjoyable.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I currently have one, Norrie. He is our big boy who loves to snuggle, eat and sleep on his back with his big paws all up in the air. I often call him my puppy kitty because he is very much a cat, but also adores belly rubs and, at times, follows me everywhere in the house. (I also have a chihuahua that I call my kitty puppy because he likes to groom himself and actually wanted to use the litterbox when we first rescued him.) The neighbor’s cat has even adopted us on a part-time basis. His name is Blackie.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

My son got a kitten for the first time a few years ago. I have been able to help him make good decisions and calm him down when he would get worried about the various health problems she’s had. His cat, Baby Kitty, only likes her owners and usually hides whenever anyone comes over to care for her or visit. However, whenever I cared for her, she followed me wherever I went. I spoke to her quietly the entire time I was there. She wouldn’t let me pet her, but my son said that was so huge that she stayed near me.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I am very careful to watch that cats are nowhere near doors when I enter or exit to ensure they don’t get outside. I also watch when they are around me to be sure to not step on their paws. I clean up messes and discard open wet food containers quickly so they won’t hurt themselves on the sharp edges of the lids. I also am careful of what cleaning products are used when they are near.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am usually available on or around most holidays except Christmas Day. That is a family day where I want to be present with them.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy is probably the fishing pole type of toys with the stick, string and items attached to the string or stick. Cats seem to really enjoy them. Laser pointers can be fun, but I’ve also seen cats get frustrated with them.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I don’t push myself on cats. I generally will talk calmly while I do things in the house and not make sudden moves. I also sit down on the floor in the same room with them, but not right by them. If I’m told that the cat likes toys, I will present the toy to the cat from a distance. If they refuse any interaction, I simply sit quietly and let them decide whether they want to stay in the room with me or not. I don’t chase them down or corner them.

Joanna watched our cat for three weeks. Communication was excellent on how our cat was doing with plenty of photos and videos. Joanna let our cat take the lead on what type a visit it would be. Surprisingly most turned out to be petting.

Great communication. Loved all the detailed description of how our cat was and pictures. I was honestly surprised Joanna was able to get picutes as our cat is shy.

Joanna is a true professional and we cannot recommend her enough! She took excellent care of our very shy cat making it possible for us to feel at ease traveling to visit my family. Joanna’s love for cats and her compassion for our cat made all the difference. We appreciated Joanna’s respect for our cat’s strict feeding schedule and our cat warmed up almost immediately to Joanna and engaged her! This has never been the case before with other pet sitters. Joanna even read to her when she was stressed from the weather or didn’t want to play. How creative! Joanna supplied us with plenty of photos, videos, and descriptive texts on each visit. These made all the difference as we didn’t feel quite so far away/disconnected from our cat. We were very excited to return home to see our cat, but the look on her face when we walked in said, “Oh, it’s the B team😆! You will love having Joanna as your pet sitter as we did and we can only hope she will be available next time we need her as everyone will want her to care for their cats.

Joanna was amazing! Our cats are skittish and both became very comfortable with Joanna. Joanna kept a consistent schedule, sent daily updates with lots of pictures, and she read to our kitties. We will definitely use Joanna again!

Joanna was so friendly and so good with the cats! my kitties can be a little shy but she spent time with each of them and got all of them to play or at least hang out and get petted. she also dealt wonderfully with my cats medication requirements and was outstanding with her communication! I will request her for all my future cat sitting needs.

Grateful for finding Joanna and Meowtel. Had a meet and greet which went well. I felt very comfortable leaving my 2 cats in Joanna’s capable hands. Received daily photos and updates. My extremely shy cat was comfortable enough to venture out from the closet to get some belly rubs. She knows a cat lover when she sees one 😻♥️💛.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
