I'm Melanie | Cat Sitting in Bridgewater, MA

Hey there, Meowtel Community! I am a lifelong pet owner, the current cat mom of two ten year-old tuxedo cats, a graduate student at Bridgewater State University, I’m looking to supplement my income with something that brings me joy, and I just can’t think of anything that fits that description better than cat-sitting! I have been pet-sitting since I was in high school, continued to do it throughout college and added dog-walking, and I am picking it up again now that I’m back in school. I am usually my family and friends’ go-to person to care for their animals while they’re away. As a result of my lifelong cat ownership and care for cats through pet-sitting, I have had extensive experience caring for cats with a wide range of health and behavioral problems. My own cat, Lily, has asthma and a seizure disorder, and she requires multiple daily medications. I’ve administered insulin to cats with diabetes. I’ve even changed a trache tube on a cat before. My mother is also a cat lover and she brought fosters into our house all the time while I was growing up. Most of them stayed in my bedroom, because I had a way with socializing cats. In fact, when I volunteered at the MSPCA, I was the only volunteer with an assigned role at the time, because I was the “cat whisperer.” I read cat behavior well, and what I don’t know or don’t understand, I research. My ability to empathize with cats, understand their behavior, and...

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

Her name was Cora Belle and I sat for her for two weeks. She was anxious and missed her humans a lot when I first got there. She wouldn’t eat for two days and she vomited a few times. I gave her a lot of space, I listened to her cat mom, and was patient with her eating. She said it was normal for her. I started gaining her trust by putting treats in her cat cave and gently stroking her head. By the third day she started approaching me and asking to be pet, and then she just couldn’t get enough attention. I was more than thrilled to give it to her. By the fifth day she was willing to play with me, and she was back to her regular feeding routine. She even began to sleep with me on the guest bed.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

As both a cat mom and a cat sitter, my best advice is to hire someone who is transparent in their communication, responsive, respectful, experienced, and professional in the way they handle business. Communication is so important, and miscommunication can lead to so much unnecessary anxiety and aggravation, which is why I think it’s so important to find a sitter who communicates well. A sitter who clearly has good energy, gets along with my cat, genuinely cares for my cat, and who I feel is responsible enough to take good care of my home are also must-haves. I recommend doing a meet and greet as early in your hiring process as possible, because you do not want just anyone in your home. Finally, I advise customers to hire sitters they know will take the time to play with their cats.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent, I typically set up a meet and greet as quickly as possible to not only ensure that I’m a good fit but also to give us both some peace of mind that you’ve booked my time and no one else can once you’ve done so. At the meet and greet, if the cat isn’t too timid then we’ll have a chance to meet and you’ll see us interact. Whether the cat meets me or not, you’ll at least get a sense of who I am, be able to show me where everything is, and tell me all about the cat’s routines and behaviors. I will also ask about allergies, dietary concerns, other health conditions, vet information, communication preferences, other emergency info, and other things that only come up once I’m in the owner’s home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bridgewater cat sitting rates will vary based on the pet sitter's experience and expertise, but the average price for a cat sitter is $25.00. Prices will also depend on how long your cat needs company for, whether that be a drop-in visit or overnight stay in your home. Meowtel sitters offer 20, 45, and 60-minute drop-in visits that allow for fully tailored care for your kitties. Your caregiver may also need to charge a little more if they have to travel far, so we'll match you with the best options which are close by.

Every Meowtel cat sitter has been thoroughly vetted, background-checked, and is insured through Meowtel on eligible reservations via our Meowtel Promise. To ensure total peace of mind while you're away, every Meowtel reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can have full confidence in your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress for your kitties. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend that you book daily visits with your sitter to keep your cats in their routine and to help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each Meowtel cat sitting visit will include the whole 9 yards: feeding, refreshing the water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, as well as any special requests you may have. We know every kitty is different and that's why we offer tailored, in-home services since cats don't do well outside their own homes. Plus, every reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you can meet your sitter before you leave to ensure it will be a purrfect fit.
