What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
I would say years of experience is not the only factor you should consider. You need a detailed oriented sitter who is familiar with the slightest behavioral changes that you don’t want to be unnoticed while you are not home.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
When working with a new client, I start by getting to know both the pet and their routine. I ask questions about the cat’s habits, preferences, and any specific needs, like feeding schedules, medications, or favorite toys. I make sure to understand the cat’s personality—whether they’re social or shy—so I can provide the best care. Next, I discuss any house-related tasks, like litter box maintenance or plant care, and confirm emergency contacts or vet information, just in case. I’m always open to a meet-and-greet or video/phone calls before the actual sitting begins, so the cat and I can get comfortable with each other. During the sitting, I keep clients updated with messages and pictures/videos to let them know how their fur baby is doing. My goal is to ensure both the pet and the client feel secure and comfortable while they’re away!
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
When I’m home-sitting for cats, I take several steps to ensure your babies safety and security. First, I make sure all windows and doors are securely closed to prevent any accidental escapes. I’m also careful when entering or leaving the house to avoid giving the cats an opportunity to dart outside! I follow the owner’s instructions closely, especially when it comes to feeding schedules, medications, and any specific needs the cats might have. Also, I make sure to monitor the cats’ behavior and health closely. If I notice anything unusual, like changes in eating, litter box habits, or energy levels or even unusual scratching I will contact the parent and let them know.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
When I take care of anxious cats, I stay calm giving them plenty of space and time to feel safe. I avoid sudden movements and loud noises, letting them come to me when they’re ready. I speak softly and use gentle body language, sitting at their level to make them feel less scared. If they’re curious but shy, I might encourage them to play with toys from a distance. I always respect their space and don’t try to pet them until they’re comfortable. By sticking to their routine and being patient, I help them feel safe and build trust.

It was easy to schedule a time to do the meet and greet, during which time she took diligent notes and asked relevant questions about care for the cats. While watching the cats, she provided regular updates with information regarding the visit, as well as pictures and videos of the cats which are always great to see when you're away. The cats seemed to have a great time with her according to the videos and were happy and healthy when I got home. It was great having Maryam as our sitter, and I will certainly book her again in the future.

I can't recommend Maryam enough! My senior, shy cat just loved her and she went above and beyond to make him comfortable while I was away. She sent a ton of videos and pictures each visit and I could tell how happy and relaxed he was--when I got back he wasn't even his usual clingy self. She also offered additional help to make him more comfortable like clipping his nails and cleaning his ears for me! I felt so much less stressed while traveling with Maryam looking after my little baby and I will definitely be booking her again!

My kitties LOVE Maryam! I got to witness it first hand when I arrived home early and I got to see her feed my babies and play with them. My Alfie was rubbing all over her and was quite smitten 🥰. I always get stressed leaving my kitties but Maryam provides me with timely and thorough updates and photos. I have her come for breakfast and dinner both with playtime so 45 min each visit. My kitties are happy and tired when Maryam leaves and I feel better knowing they had the company and exercise. Highly recommend Maryam for your kitty needs.

Maryam is wonderful! She even got my grumpy old cat to come out for pets. She updated daily with videos of the cats and detailed messages of what was taken care of while she was here. My cats loved her and I know they were well taken care of. She even got to know my one cats personality so well she was able to joke with me about him. She really knows and loves cats!

Maryam is awesome! She went above and beyond caring for our 8 cats and we really enjoyed the daily updates with videos and photos! We were really concern about leaving our sweet golden girl we have never left for a long period of time before, she is 17 and has issues with the litter box and Maryam took such good care of her and gave us so much peace being away. Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:

- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Roslindale cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Maryam, here in Austin Texas from Meowtel, recently cared for my cat Smudge while I was away in Europe. Dear Meowtel, one can not ask for a more caring, competent, and compassionate person to care for your cat. She is fantastic! Well beyond carrying out all daily care issues for my little guy perfectly, she kept me fully informed and entertained with their happy new friendship. When faced with a ‘new guy at a front desk being difficult with a prearranged admission situation’- she steadfastly stood her ground to professionally negotiate her admission into the building, all in the name of Mr. Smudge getting his dinner! 😸 Amazing! The entire time that she cared for him I was completely at ease. I simply can not recommend her any higher!

I was so lucky to find Maryam at the last moment before the holidays! She did an amazing job taking care of my pets, always arriving on time and keeping me updated with detailed reports about their feeding. She also sent plenty of videos, which was such a comfort. It’s so reassuring to know your fur babies are in good hands when out of town, and we felt great knowing they were being cared for by Maryam.
