20 Years Professional Animal Care

I'm Marie

Cat Sitting in Ann Arbor, MI

Cats have always held a special place in my heart. I love their intelligence, independence, unique personalities, and the trust that comes from truly understanding them. I share my home with two cats of my own, and have cared for cats of all ages, personalities, and medical needs.

What sets me apart is nearly 20 years of professional animal care experience, including working as a veterinary technician in both primary and emergency medicine. I have experience with everything from bottle-fed kittens to senior and medically complex cats. I’m comfortable administering medications and providing post-surgical care, and my veterinary background has made me highly skilled at recognizing subtle changes in health or behavior. If something doesn’t seem right, you’ll hear from me promptly.

What sets me apart is nearly 20 years of professional animal care experience, including working as a veterinary technician in both primary and emergency medicine. I’m comfortable administering medications and providing post-surgical care, and my veterinary background has made me highly skilled at recognizing subtle changes in health or behavior. If something doesn’t seem right, you’ll hear from me promptly.

I have a special understanding of shy and fearful cats, and believe trust should be earned, not forced. I follow their lead, whether they want playtime, brushing, cuddles, treats, conversation, or simply quiet companionship. During every visit, I’ll check on your cat’s well-being, provide fresh food and water, clean dishes and feeding areas, scoop litter, and then the rest of our visit belongs to them.

I am nurturing, dependable, meticulous, clean, and affectionate. You’ll receive photos and a detailed update after visits, and I’m happy to bring in packages, water plants, or take out trash while you’re away. Most importantly, your cat won’t simply be checked on, they’ll be cared for by someone who genuinely loves cats, understands their behavior, notices the little things, and has the experience to recognize when something needs attention.

Today, I work in the vestibular research field at the University of Michigan, but I genuinely miss the companionship and time I spent caring for cats during my veterinary-clinic days. Cat sitting gives me the opportunity to reconnect with something I truly love while giving owners the peace of mind that their cats are in experienced, attentive hands.

Learn More About Marie

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My two orange kitties, Orange Juice and Nymeria, are six years old and very much part of the family. Orange Juice-named by my kids, is an orange and white boy, while Nymeria is my orange girl, named after Arya’s direwolf in Game of Thrones. After losing my previous cat, I lasted only three months before realizing that a home simply doesn’t feel like home to me without cats. Orange Juice was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at just two years old. He sees a veterinary cardiologist annually and receives medication twice a day, so I understand firsthand the responsibility that comes with loving and caring for a cat with a chronic medical condition, and how important it is that medications are given correctly and on time. Nymeria, thankfully, is healthy, although she does suffer from a serious case of sock kleptomania!

Are you usually available during holidays?

I’m happy to offer holiday availability, so you can travel, celebrate, and enjoy time with family, knowing your cats are receiving attentive, loving, and dependable care while you’re away.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

With timid cats, I believe trust should be earned, never forced. I respect their safe spaces, speak softly, read their body language, and allow them to approach me on their own terms. Sometimes the best care is simply a quiet, reassuring presence that helps them feel safe while their needs are thoughtfully met.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Ann Arbor cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
