I'm Mary

Cat Sitting in Minneapolis, MN

I'm Mary, a Minneapolis/St. Paul cat sitter with over a decade of experience taking care of cats of all ages! I specialize in shy or anxious cats, senior cats, and cats who need medication: oral pills, eye and ear drops, topical ointments, inhalers, and subcutaneous fluids.

Cats are my absolute passion — from their silly little noses to their precious baby toe beans — and I treat every visit like I'm caring for my own. I'm a cat meowm to two: Gnocchi, a senior black cat with the meows of an angel and Toast, an orange and white cat running on the one orange brain-cell.

Being a cat meowm and professional sitter has taught me how to take care of many kinds of cats:

Shy and anxious cats: Cats are the best communicators, so I know it's best to let them come to me first and follow their lead. Gnocchi gets anxious the longer I'm away, so I know what that looks like and how to help...

Being a cat meowm and professional sitter has taught me how to take care of many kinds of cats:

Shy and anxious cats: Cats are the best communicators, so I know it's best to let them come to me first and follow their lead. Gnocchi gets anxious the longer I'm away, so I know what that looks like and how to help. At our meet and greet, I'll take as much time as needed so you and your cats are comfortable before you leave!

Senior cats and medication: I have extensive experience with senior cats' needs — I even share my home with one (Gnocchi)! I'm also comfortable administering oral pills, eye and ear drops, topical ointments, inhalers, and subcutaneous fluids. I've given medication to cats of all ages. If they push back, I'm always patient and will follow your instructions to make sure they get what they need.

Behavior and routine: I've cared for cats with anxiety, inconsistent litter box habits, and trouble adjusting to a new cat at home. Give me your routine and I'll make sure they're as much at ease as you are while you're away! I'm happy to visit twice daily if needed.

Each of my visits includes:

Scooping the litter boxes and vacuuming/sweeping around them
Washing and replenishing food and water bowls
Playtime and belly rubs!
Eyes on your cat when I arrive and before I leave
Texts with updates and lots of photos and videos
Cleaning around food, litter, and play areas
Watering plants and bringing in mail/packages
Double-checking doors are locked every time I come and go

Whether you're going on a weekend getaway or a two-week vacation, I'd be honored to watch your babies.

I usually reply within a few hours. If my calendar shows blocked dates, message me; I'm flexible and will try my best to make it work!

Learn More About Mary

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been a cat sitter with Meowtel since 2020, but started watching cats in 2014. I have extensive experience taking care of cats with behavioral conditions (anxiety, inconsistent litter box usage, adjusting to a new cat in the house), health conditions (administering oral medication, creams/ointments, ear drops, inhalers), and senior cat needs.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I catsit because cats need cat people taking care of them when their pawrents are away. As a frequent traveler myself, I recognize how hard it is being away from your babies and I will do whatever I can to ensure you enjoy your time away from your beloved kitty(s). I take a ton of photos and videos so you'll get lots of updates on how they're doing!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two: Toast and Gnocchi! Gnocchi is black with green eyes and she's a very vocal lady. Toasty is an orange and white silly little guy.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Find a TRUE cat person. That's what I love most about Meowtel — it's a company run for cats and cat people, by cats and cat people. No other service offers the same level of care and consistency. When you're looking for sitter, find someone that's as passionate (obsessed) as you are. They should be enthusiastic and excited to work with you and your cats. You want to know that they will be in good paws while you're away!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Regardless of how your cats take to strangers, I make sure I have eyes on them as soon as I arrive and before I leave. I spend my entire visit taking care of your cats and spending time with them. Every time I enter and exit, I double-check that the doors are locked and everything is intact while you're away.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Cats are excellent communicators. I always respect their boundaries, let them come to me first, and watch their cues so I can tell whether a cat wants company or space that day. One of my cats, Gnocchi, is often anxious the longer I'm away, so I have a lot of experience navigating this. I spend as much time as needed during our meet and greet to make sure I can provide the best care for both you and your cats.

Mary is truly an exceptional cat sitter, and we could not recommend her more highly! She took such thoughtful, careful care of our cats and genuinely treated them like they were her own. Our older cat can be especially challenging about taking his medication, and she went above and beyond to make sure he was cared for even when he was absolutely refusing to cooperate and not being very nice about it. It was obvious from every update that she was paying close attention to both cats and really cared about how they were doing. We came home to happy, well-cared-for cats and felt like they had been in the best possible hands.

Mary was absolutely fantastic, flexible, and went above and beyond for my kitties! I have two cats of totally opposite personalities and both of them were well looked after according to their needs. Mary provided daily updates (complete with fantastic photos!) that totally put my mind at ease while out of town, and was very responsive throughout the entire process. I would definitely recommend her to anyone and would be happy to use her services again should the opportunity arise.

Mary is the BEST. She went so above and beyond to make my cat feel happy and loved while we were gone. It was clear she really cares 🥰 She sent so many photos and videos of all the cuddles, treats, and good times and he looked totally blissed out in all of them. I can’t say enough good things!!!

Mary was a great help to us. We tasked her with feeding our feral cats. One strictly outdoor and one indoor/outdoor with very little exposure to any people except us. She was able to interact with both cats and I'm sure with more time she'd have made friends with our indoor/outdoor cat. Her love of cats is obvious. Will definitely hire her again if the need arises.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Minneapolis cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
