I'm Laura | Cat Sitting in Dover, NH

With 26+ years of cat care experience, I have deep knowledge of cat behavior and needs. I offer integrity, attention to detail, clear and prompt communication, and excellence in care of your cat and home. It's important to me that you feel totally at ease while you're away. For this reason, I ensure I’m available for at least a full day after your booking ends, in case of travel delay. Strengths I bring to cat caretaking include: • Familiarity with common temperament and behavioral issues related to stress, including change in routine (e.g., family being away from home), fearfulness, and shyness. • Comfort administering medication. In addition to oral medicine (pills and liquids), I have experience giving subcutaneous fluids, as well as insulin and anti-seizure injections. • Comfort with special needs. I’ve cared for cats with anxiety, arthritis, cancer, chronic upper respiratory infections, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, gastrointestinal issues, and kidney failure. I've also cared for three-legged cats, cats with ataxia, cats that are deaf, and cats that are blind. • Attention to detail. I will notify you of any behavioral changes in your cat(s). I will follow your instructions carefully, and you will receive detailed updates and clear photos at each visit. My clients often remark that they appreciate the detailed written updates I provide. • Cleanliness. I will keep your cat’s living spaces as clean as possible. This includes regularly washing food and water bowls, sweeping up litter, and putting away wand and/or string toys after playtime. Experience I’ve been offering professional cat sitting services since 2019. I got my start in California, after I had a hard time finding excellent cat care for my own cats. I’ve been cat sitting in the Seacoast since 2023, when I moved to be near family. Through my animal shelter volunteer work, I developed a special interest in cats who need extra care, including cats who have experienced trauma, senior cats, and cats with health challenges. My cat volunteer experience includes: • The Humane Society of Greater Akron...

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Cat sitting brings together a lot of things I love: cat care and interaction, being able to give people peace of mind while they’re away, writing, and taking pictures. I love meeting and building trust with new cats: they are all unique and all wonderful. I’m in agreement with the French writer Colette: “There are no ordinary cats.” It’s a great privilege to be able to care for cats while their people are away. I sincerely enjoy meeting and building trust with my human clients, too.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I always recommend a meet and greet to ensure you feel comfortable with me before a booking. If your cat gets food or medication at a specific time, I might suggest we schedule it at this time so that I can see your process firsthand. At our meet and greet, I will make sure that I have your veterinarian's contact information and know where your cat carrier is located. I'll also ask you questions about your cat's routines, including food, water, litter box, and playtime. At this time, we can also discuss your preferences for how I will access your home. On the last day of your booking, I will ask you to notify me when you are home safe. You are welcome to reach out to me at any time if you have questions before, during, or after a booking.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Very timid and anxious cats have a special place in my heart. I do not approach timid or anxious cats as this is often stressful for them. I keep my voice gentle and refrain from any quick motions. If a cat has indicated they’re open to interaction, I may sit or even lie down on the floor at a distance, allowing them to come nearer to me if they choose. Recently, I began building trust with a timid cat by placing a sequence of treats increasingly close to me—but still far enough away that the cat was comfortable eating them.

Laura is a truly wonderful cat sitter and I don’t think I will ever meet anyone that comes close to her capabilities. When I first met Laura she went all out in developing a relationship with my cat understanding her needs. When she first met Kitty, Kitty recently underwent a diabetic diagnoses. Laura gave me the upmost confidence that she would be able to handle Kittys care which she has done for nearly 2 years anytime we are out of town. I believe my cat now treats Laura like a 2nd owner. My cat gets super excited when Laura comes over to visit.

Laura is an exemplary cat-momma. She follows directions to a T and crafts detailed reports with lots of adorable images. We’ve got a very vocal cat, who we are loathe to leave for any extended period of time, but Laura made it a stress-free and joyous experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dover cat sitting rates will vary based on the pet sitter's experience and expertise, but the average price for a cat sitter is $26.00. Prices will also depend on how long your cat needs company for, whether that be a drop-in visit or overnight stay in your home. Meowtel sitters offer 20, 45, and 60-minute drop-in visits that allow for fully tailored care for your kitties. Your caregiver may also need to charge a little more if they have to travel far, so we'll match you with the best options which are close by.

Every Meowtel cat sitter has been thoroughly vetted, background-checked, and is insured through Meowtel on eligible reservations via our Meowtel Promise. To ensure total peace of mind while you're away, every Meowtel reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can have full confidence in your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress for your kitties. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend that you book daily visits with your sitter to keep your cats in their routine and to help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each Meowtel cat sitting visit will include the whole 9 yards: feeding, refreshing the water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, as well as any special requests you may have. We know every kitty is different and that's why we offer tailored, in-home services since cats don't do well outside their own homes. Plus, every reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you can meet your sitter before you leave to ensure it will be a purrfect fit.
