I completed Petvalu's Animal Care Expert Program, (where I was employed) which gave me knowledge in pet nutrition, basic health needs, and grooming. What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been cat sitting for 15 years, starting as an undergrad when I cared for two shy, large, and fluffy cats. I visited them twice daily for feeding, litter clean-up, and play, giving them time and patience to come out of hiding. I kept their owners updated regularly, through text messages, and it was rewarding to know they trusted me to care for their cats while away. More recently, I cat and house sat for a client twice, (once for 3 months and once for a month) caring for their elderly but playful cats, Lana and Bert. I followed their detailed daily routines, including feeding, outdoor or relaxation time, and litter care. I still visit them when I am in town.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
What I enjoy most about cat sitting is earning a cat's trust and building a connection with them. There is nothing like coming into a home and being greeted by a cat who is excited to see you. Cats bring a lot of joy and help reduce stress. I love learning their personalities, providing play, cuddles, and care, and knowing both the cat and their owner feel comfortable and happy.
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
One favorite cat sitting experience was with Jiminey, a very energetic and mischievous cat. His owners used a spray bottle to correct his behavior, but I did not agree with this action and I wanted to find another approach instead. The first few nights were challenging as Jiminey was upset and missed his owners. I spent the time gently comforting him, offering pets, and providing reassurance. I noticed his routines, and gave him extra time to play to burn off energy, and learned how to redirect him. By the end of my stay, Jiminey respected boundaries with only some soft corrections, and his owners were amazed by the change. Knowing I had eased the stress for both him and his owners was incredibly rewarding. It strengthened my awareness that patience and positive attention are key to building trust with cats.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
