In addition, growing up I was always called upon in my neighborhood to take care of all the pets, while families and couples were away... Hello! My name is Kari Patane, I am 27 years old, and I have one cat and one dog! I have always had a passion for all animals and have been helping out in big ways since I was twelve years old! For as long as I was born, my family always had a full house of pets, including dogs, bunnies, and cats! I am one of four in my family, and by being the youngest, I connected with animals on a deeper level. Fast forward to college, in 2018, I was navigating a new world without my family and I felt lost. I decided to make a visit to the SPCA shelter in Delaware to adopt a cat! Long story short, he chose me, I found my cat soulmate, and the rest is history! Now today, my cat Loki, and I go on amazing adventures together! I trained him to become an adventure cat who travels alongside me and experiences life with me! We go on hikes together, out to eat, to parks, on walks, and vacations! It is so much fun to live life with your cat!
In addition, growing up I was always called upon in my neighborhood to take care of all the pets, while families and couples were away. I have cared for a variety of animals including, dogs, cats, bunnies, gerbils, guinea pigs, chinchillas, frogs, fish, etc. My neighbor is a vet and has his own clinic, and I was very intrigued and interested from a young age to learn all about animals. I would volunteer there, and raise awareness for animals that would come in looking for a new home! While I was at college, I worked at Doggie Daycare, caring for, feeding, playing, walking, cleaning, etc. I also found small jobs on care.com throughout my college career and absolutely loved watching over all those furry friends! Also in college, I was a part of a service sorority and one of the services we did was going to shelters each weekend. We brought donated items from the week, walked the dogs and played with them, played with the cats and gave them company, dealt with feeding times, changed litters, gave medications, and many more! Volunteering at the shelter was one of my favorite times and I looked forward to seeing the cats and dogs each week!
Currently, I pet sit for a couple of neighbors and family friends, but I am looking to expand and share what I am most passionate about! Over the years, on the side, in addition to working full time, I continued to care for and watch after family's pets. The most frequent compliments I receive are about updates and communication. I ensure to check in with every owner, send pictures and videos throughout the day, and provide 24-hour responsiveness. I would want and expect this from pet sitters watching my own pets, therefore it is personal to me. After 4 years of my career, I quit my full-time job of being a middle school teacher, because I was very unhappy in the industry. Now, I have created my own business, cleaning and organizational jobs as a freelancer, which I very much enjoy! I create my own schedule and choose my clients and it allows me to have so much more free time now! That’s why I am excited to extend my services and do what makes me the happiest, caring, and sitting for your pets! This means that my time is your time and I will be available for you and your pet when you need it!

I could go on and on for ages about my experiences and love for cats and all animals, but, overall, if you choose me I can promise you that your furry loved ones will be in great care and beloved as one of my own! I take every care seriously and personally as my passion and dedication towards helping animals is a genuine joy of mine! My cat is my baby and I take his well-being very seriously, and he is treated with the utmost respect and attention he deserves. Through having my adventure buddy, I have learned so much about cats and I continue to grow, and use that knowledge to help others! I even say I have always felt a deeper connection to animals than I do with humankind. As Jean Cocteau once said, “Cats are the visible soul of the house as the time spent with them is never wasted.”

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
In my opinion, the best part about cat sitting is meeting each and every cat and getting to spend time with such unique and independent creatures. Cats have their own personalities and quirks, and it’s always a pleasure to watch them and learn more! Building trust, and to see how they interact with their environment. Each cat has its own rhythm, and it’s rewarding to help them feel comfortable and cared for, even if it’s just for a short time.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
Yes! I have a cat named Loki, a 6-year-old tabby, and he’s my best friend in the whole wide world! He saved me, and I saved him, together we have been inseparable! This summer, we shared the most magical memories together! We traveled all the way to Italy, where my husband and I got married! We spent our wedding and honeymoon with Loki by our side. We explored Italy for a month, and Loki had an absolute blast! We truest do everything together and it is so fun!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
With timid or anxious cats, patience is key! I try to create a calm and safe environment where they can feel in control of their space. I start by giving them time to adjust, avoiding any sudden movements or loud noises, and letting them come to me on their own terms. I offer treats and gentle, quiet interactions, like sitting nearby and letting them approach me when they’re ready. Keeping a consistent routine—like feeding and playtime at the same time each day—can also help build their confidence. And if they like, I’ll give them a cozy spot to retreat to, like a soft bed or a quiet corner, so they can feel secure while still being close. Each cat is different, but with time and trust, they usually start to feel more comfortable and show their true personalities!

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Somerset cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
