My name's Kim, and I've been a cat person, through and through, for as long as I can recall! Having grown up with lots of cats in my adolescent years, my first job being at a pet store where I was employed for about 4.5 years, adopting and rescuing three cats of my own, I've been fortunate enough to have always had cats in my life. Aside from taking care of my own babies, I've also pet sit a number of times for others before joining Meowtel over two and a half years ago, as well as assisted with many foster cats. I have extensive experience with cats of all ages, including bottle-feeding young kittens and administering medication to cats who were sadly ill, including pills, liquid medication, and insulin injections. While I, of course, love to interact and play with all cats, I understand that some are more laid back or timid than others and respect their need for space or time to warm up. But don't worry, I'll always love them from afar, if that's the case, take extra time to help shy kitties feel safe and earn their trust, and provide the utmost care that they deserve!
As for the logistics, I'm currently both employed and in school full-time, so my availability is limited. However, I have some flexibility in my schedule and am happy to work with you to try to meet your and your kitty's needs!

As for COVID protocols, I understand that there are many who are weary about this (along with all of the other illnesses going around) and/or immunocompromised, and I am more than happy to wear a mask and take any other precautions necessary to keep you and your family healthy. What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
Aside from cat-sitting for Meowtel since March of 2023, (over 100 reservations and counting!) I have cat-sit for friends and family, as needed, over the past several years! I have cared for just about all ages, from bottle-fed foster kittens all the way to 18 year old senior cats as well as given oral medication in both liquid and pill form and administered injections many times. Additionally, I've cared for kitties with special needs, such as partial blindness, hearing loss, ongoing medical issues, etc. I've also found that I've been able to help shy kitties feel safe and warm up to me quickly :)
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I LOVE spending time getting to know each cat's unique personality and finding what they enjoy most, whether pets and attention, playtime with their favorite toy(s), being brushed, belly rubs, or giving them space. (LOL) Cats are often hilarious little things, and so they certainly keep me entertained and literally have me laughing out loud! It especially warms my heart to be able to help the shy/scared kitties feel safe and earn their trust
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
Oh my goodness, there's no way I can choose a favorite. Each cat I've cared for has been lovely in their own way and brought me joy for different reasons! If I had to choose a general favorite, it would probably be the "only child" kitties lol. I love being able to provide them company so that they don't feel as lonely.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I do! My first-born (LOL) is Niru, (meaning strong and powerful) who will be 11 this year! I saw him across the way during a pet adoption event back in 2013 when I worked at a pet store, and it was love at first sight. I adopted him that day! My other boys are Walt (after Walter White. Any Breaking Bad fans?) and Binx (after Binx from Hocus Pocus!) who are brothers who I rescued from outside in 2014 at just a couple weeks old. They were extremely ill, and I (with the help of my partner at the time) nursed them back to health. They were supposed to be fosters, but we all know how that goes!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
If you're nervous about hiring a stranger to come into your space and care for your kitty (and understandably so!) rest assured that we must go through an extensive process to be able to work for Meowtel! Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need, ask for lots of photos, and opt for an inexpensive camera if it would help you feel more at ease. *During the meet and greet, it's generally best to allow your kitty and I to approach one another rather than picking them up and holding them as this can make them feel trapped, confused, and more anxious when being introduced to a stranger.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
I always strive to respond to all messages and reservation requests in a timely manner. Once a request has been confirmed, I schedule a free meet and greet with the cat parent. This allows for both parent and cat(s) to meet me and feel more at ease as well as to go over all care instructions, location of all pet supplies, and to obtain a copy of a key or code to their home. Meet and Greets are especially ideal for the kitties, as they will likely feel safer being alone with me after being introduced around their owner, who they trust!
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I ensure the safety and security of the cats by being careful to open the door so that they don't try to escape, removing anything they chew on that could potentially cause harm, triple checking their medication dosage before administering, using pet-safe cleaning supplies whenever possible, not allowing them to go outdoors, and refraining from giving them any treats outside of what they have at home. I ensure the safety and security of the home by locking the door as soon as I arrive and when I leave, setting the alarm if my client has one. Under no circumstances would I ever answer the door.
Are you usually available during holidays?
While the times I'm normally available may vary slightly on some holidays, I am generally available during all holidays! Feel free to message me to request early reservations before I become fully booked :)
What is your favorite cat toy?
It really depends on what each cat prefers! Lasers are a bit hit or miss, but when cats love them, they LOVE them and go absolutely wild! I've found that most generally really love wand toys with feathers and/or the rainbow ribbon wand toy as well as anything with strings! Some cats really get a kick out of chasing after small toys, though, and if you're lucky, they might even bring it back to you! But in true classic cat nature, their favorite "toys" often end up being objects that aren't even cat toys LOL. (shoelaces, straws, paper bags, boxes, and plants *facepalm*)
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I truly have a soft spot for timid and/or anxious kitties. I gradually approach them, get down closer to their level, and slowly reach my hand out for them to come sniff me and check me out while talking in a gentle tone. If they appear less anxious, I gently pet the side of their head with a softly/mostly closed hand (not fist) so that they don't think that I'm going to grab them. (or hurt them if they were unfortunately abused in any way by a previous owner) I also have as calm of a presence as possible and am non-reactive if they do swat at me as to not add to their anxiety.

Not only did she take amazing care of our cats, but she made sure they were happy and comfortable—spending time playing with them and giving them plenty of attention. It was clear from the updates and photos she sent that they absolutely loved her, which gave us so much peace of mind during a stressful time. On top of that, she even brought in our mail, which was such a thoughtful extra touch. Her communication was consistent and reassuring throughout, and we always felt like our cats were in the best hands. We can’t recommend Kimberly highly enough. She is simply the best, and we will absolutely be returning customers!

I found out just a week before my vacation that my son couldn’t take care of my cat, and I was in a panic. Luckily, I discovered Kimberly, and she was fantastic! She took exceptional care of my cat, Jasper, and kept me updated with pictures and notes. She even went the extra mile by taking out my recycling. Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

South Plainfield cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Kimberly is sensational! She charmed both of our boys, including an extremely shy baby panther who takes a very long time to warm up to pretty much anyone else. He was literally eating out of her hand on the first visit (wld not have believed it had there not been pics, he really is so shy!) Kimberly was an excellent communicator and sent amazing photographs. We are very nervous parents and we were completely at ease after the first update. The kitties were completely calm and normal when we came back - no adjustment time and no surprise piles of throw up from nervousness. We wld happily work w Kim again! 10 out of 5 stars! Kimberly beat several other competitors right off the bat simply by being the fastest to respond to my initial message. A prompt reply is always a good sign in itself but she went above and beyond from first meeting to final visit. We verified visitation dates and availability before booking and on the day of meeting she arrived on time for the scheduled meet at greet with my cats. I was definitely a disorganized mess running on a solid 3 hours of sleep and preparing for a last minute flight. No issue for Kimberly! She ensured she didn't miss any details from me on feeding schedules, water bowl locations, litter box locations, favorite toys, applicable special needs, and which foods to provide at which times to which cat. My male cat tends to harass my other cat if left unsupervised for too long, Kimberly sent frequent updates assuring all was well, and sending some fun action pics of play time with their favorite toys. I came home from a stressful flight to find all of their used bowls/plates washed and ready to put away! A pleasant surprise indeed, one less thing on my plate at the end of a long day! I would recommend Kimberly to anyone who wants reliable service and attentive care to their fur babies while they're away.

Kim was so great with our cats—she clearly has tons of experience with multiple cat situations and took time to check on even the shy ones who were hiding to make sure they were okay! I came home to calm cats and a very neat house. Updates were much appreciated with many photos!

We were absolutely thrilled by the absolutely wonderful care Kimberly gave our cats while we were away. She not only took care of the regular stuff like feeding and litterboxes, but she went above and beyond by really connecting with our boys, interacting with them with play time, brushes and lots of love and attention. Kimberly exceeded our expectations in providing outstanding care for our two boys while we were away. She took care of everything we needed, or rather, our cats needed! She even charmed our shy and skittish fella to come out, eat and even play! She was great with both cats who have already requested she come back the next time we're away. Can't say no to that!
