Cat Sitting in West Berlin, NJ

Ever since I was a little girl, I had a deep connection with animals. I can understand how they feel emotionally and physically and what they're thinking or wanting.

There hasn't been a moment in my life where I didn't share my home with an animal companion. My first ever cat was Cloie. She was the sweetest black kitty with the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. We rescued her from the streets when I was a little girl. I was at my grandmom's house waiting in my mom's parked car to go home. A couple neighborhood friends were with me when all of a sudden this little kitten just appeared from under my feet. I was talking to her, petting her, and holding her. And well, she became my first ever kitty! Currently, I'm lucky to have Teddy and Talia, my two rescued American Pit Bull Terriers, however, there is a void in my heart without having my own cat anymore. Cat sitting through Meowtel allows me to get all the kitty interaction I could want!

My journey in caring for cats began with volunteering at an high-intake county animal shelter when I was only 13-years old...

Cat sitting through Meowtel allows me to get all the kitty interaction I could want!

My journey in caring for cats began with volunteering at an high-intake county animal shelter when I was only 13-years old. Since then I have worked in various roles in the pet care industry (e.g., kennel tech, vet tech, pharmacy tech, cat/dog sitting, etc.). I currently work at a large emergency/specialty animal hospital 3-days a week as a pharmacy technician. While I don't work directly with cats in this role, I have gained lots of up-to-date medical knowledge from reviewing feline medical records and learning which medications treat various health conditions. I gained most of my hands on medical experience with cats at a private, no-kill animal shelter. I had my own special room where I treated and cared for all the sick cats, kittens, and an occasional dog/puppy. One memorable experience I had was being able to safely obtain blood from a feral cat on the first try! Because of my background working in animal shelters, I've learned the power and effectiveness of positive, reinforcement based training/handling. This prepared me to be able to earn the Fear Free certification which teaches veterinary professionals, pet sitters, and pet parents how to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) in cats and dogs while they're at the animal hospital, traveling to the animal hospital, or while they're in their own home. Fear Free has taught me gentle, science-based handling/training techniques, FAS-reducing medication/supplement management, and a greater awareness to the emotional needs of a cat. I strongly believe cats appreciate a gentle, less-is-more-approach. As you might have guessed, my cat-sitting service has a strong emphasis on feline health and wellness.

When I visit your home, it's not just about giving your feline food and water. It's about getting to know your kitty and how they specifically communicate using their body language to tell me when they're content or need something. It's about paying attention to any changes in their food intake, behavior, or accidents outside the litterbox raising concerns of a medical issue. It's about providing companionship, playtime, and cuddles – whatever your cat needs to feel loved and safe. Additionally, my in-home cat-sitting service offers an added layer of security (at no extra charge) by providing a visible presence in your home, deterring potential intruders, and ensuring the safety of your property. For transparency and to ease your mind even more, I also send regular updates with photos.

Thank you for considering me as your beloved kitty's caretaker. I am confident in my 20 years of animal care and medical experience that your feline companion will be in excellent hands!

Learn More About Valerie

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting since 2014. I have experience giving medications (primarily insulin and oral meds), recognizing symptoms of sickness, fear, anxiety, and stress, potential cat hazards to look out for, and normal kitty care duties.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Cats are special in their own unique ways. They offer a different type of affection and have their own style of humor. They are also remarkably intelligent in a very naturalistic way. I just truly adore them and feel very calm around them! This is why I was so excited to join Meowtel since it’s a special network of cat owners and sitters!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

It is really hard to just pick one because they are all my favorite! I have “triplets” named after the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” that I’ve been caring for since they were young cats. I have another family that I’ve cared for various cats over the years— three of which were medical needs (oral meds and inhaler)! I also had a sweet senior kitty who needed thyroid meds. Her silly quirk was she would always drink water droplets from the tub and then sit on my lap the whole time.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

West Berlin cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $24.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
