I understand that every single cat is different, so this is the general approach I like to take when meeting new cats, tweaking the strategy based on their body language. Having a stranger come into their space can be very daunting for them, so I do my best to let them know that I respect them, their space, and their boundaries. Also having a couple treats for bribery never hurts ;)

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

Though I didn’t realize it until now, I’ve been cat sitting since I was about 12 years old. My aunt works and travels a lot and would often ask me to come over to stay with her tuxedo, Oreo, but I’ve always just considered it me and Orei just hanging out. I’ve also “hung out” with other family cats like Buttercup, Tchalla, and Farrah Cat all whom I love dearly.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have one cat, Sir Panko Mittens the 3rd who’s actually my first cat. His last name is Mittens since he’s polydactyl and looks like he has gloves on. I love my son SO very much, I got him on a whim from a craigslist ad and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

My cat is definitely one of these cats, so I’m very familiar with this. I always enter the cats space in a calm manner, seat myself a reasonable distance away from them and allow them to approach me at their own will. If they don’t approach, which is okay, I’ll try to feed them, give them treats, and encourage them to play so they can begin to associate me with positive things they like and begin to get more comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:


  • More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
  • 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
  • Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.

All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Bronx cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $32.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
