Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

GENERAL AVAILABILITY NOTICE: If you are an existing client and see days blocked off, please get in touch -- I can usually accommodate you and will open the days for your booking if so.

Hello Meowtel Cat Families!

I'm a life-long cat carer with particular experience working with special needs cats. I have experience with kittens, geriatric cats, feral rescues, and cats receiving cancer and other medical care. I know that each cat has a unique personality and that all cats tell us what they need if we just take the time to listen.

I love playing with social cats, but also respect that some cats just want to hang out quietly, either with me or in their favorite hiding space. Because of my experience working with feral rescues, I am also comfortable with cats that might hiss, scratch, or otherwise respond intensely to a change in their environment and usual care routine. I get it, we're all creatures of habit...

I get it, we're all creatures of habit. And I'm happy to work with those cats to make your time away as stress-free as possible for them.

Please note:

For cats that need insulin injections or subcutaneous fluids, I require an in-person meet-and-greet before the first visit to verify that your cat is comfortable with me administering their medication/fluids. Please book at least 45 minutes for fluids visits; shorter visits are fine for all other medical needs.

Additionally, regardless of medication needs, if your cat has ever displayed significant aggression, territorial behavior, or biting that breaks skin, full disclosure is important in order for us to come up with an effective care plan. In these cases, please reach out to me before booking to discuss.

You might notice I only accept cats in a small radius from my Brooklyn apartment. This is so that I can reach any and all appointments to visit your felines on foot if needed. The MTA will never get in the way of your cat getting its needs met in a timely way. I have a highly flexible schedule, so we can design the care plan for your cat(s) around what works best for them.

I can't wait to meet your purrrrrrfect pets!

COVID-19 INFORMATION: I am fully vaccinated and boosted and continue to mask in all client homes, indoor public settings, and transit.

Learn More About Racheline

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been sitting for almost five years now and do it essentially full-time around working on my other career as a romance novelist. As noted elsewhere, I have a lot of experience with high-needs cats, whether this is related to a medical situation, socialization concerns, or being a high-energy breed. If a cat can do it, I’ve probably seen it at this point. I am also regularly hired to be an extra set of hands for clients learning to medicate cats with newly diagnosed chronic conditions, so please feel free to reach out if that is your situation.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I vastly prefer to meet-and-greets in person, and I require them for cats I will need to physically handle for medication or other needs. For cats that need medication I recommend that we do the meet-and-greet while you are medicating them, so I can see what they are used to and verify that they will accept this care from me. My schedule is highly flexible, and I believe I’m there to meet your cat-related emotional needs as well. Feel free to worry as much as you want and provide as much insight into your furry friends as pleases you.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I still wear a mask. I’m in and out of a lot of homes and around a lot of cats, and no one needs a kitty cold or Covid. I always wash my hands when I arrive as I am not here to test your cat’s immune system. Escape is a big concern, especially for people who live in single-family homes and first-floor apartments. I know, I get it, I’m in the same situation, and have a whole plan where I slip in through a barely opened door I’ve blocked with my backpack. Your cats are staying inside. I never mess with your windows unless I need to close them due to a storm.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, yes, and yes! That said, I book up extremely fast, particularly for the winter holidays. I open booking for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years on October 1. As dates fill up, I will close them on my calendar — however, I can usually still add exiting clients in if they are on my route, so do reach out and we’ll see what we can do.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

My general policy with shy and timid cats is to sit down on the floor and let them come to me. Most cats can be lured out for some scritches, particularly with treats and quiet, but my goal is never to make cats do things they don’t want to do when it comes to socializing. That said, I will -always- get you proof of life, even if it’s a weird shadowy photo of your furbaby hiding under your bed.

Racheline is the very best and it's such a weight off our minds that our cats are well taken care of when we are away. On our most recent trip we got stranded 2 extra days, due to extreme weather in NYC and canceled flights. Racheline assured us they would still be able to brave the elements to care for our cats and easily allowed us to book extra days to make sure they were covered. I can't imagine how that experience could have gone without someone so dedicated. I've already highly recommended Racheline as a sitter to so many of my own friends!

Racheline is like the post office: nothing will keep her from her appointed rounds, including the worst snowstorm in a decade! Our kitty was delivered his much-needed meds on time no matter how treacherous the city got, and Racheline stepped in to add extra visits when our flight home was cancelled. She is THE BEST.

This month

Racheline is the first catsitter I’ve ever hired — I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. She was an incredible and dedicated sitter for my 2 boys, and pulled out all the stops (and then some!) to ensure medication was given on time. Updates were timely and comprehensive. She folllowed all of the instructions to a T (4 pages - sorry Racheline 😭). She’s also very very responsive to texts. This was perfect for real-time updates and for my mention of things I’d forgotten to include in the instructions. It’s clear she’s a fellow cat lady, which is a high high compliment from this neurotic cat mom. I already have her booked for several more multi-day visits. And you should too!!!

Racheline is the most caring, attentive and consistent sitter you could ask for. We have a very challenging cat with glaucoma that requires several drops a day. He’s also a handful and very mercurial. Racheline had the grit and smarts to figure out how to administer his drops and make sure he got what he needed, even though he resisted wildly. Racheline is a true gem; I can’t recommend her highly enough.

We are so grateful we found Racheline. They took incredible care of our babies while we were on an extended vacation. One of our cats had a medical emergency while we were gone and Racheline really went above and beyond to monitor his situation, communicate quickly and clearly, and take him to vet when the situation reached a crisis point (he is fine now!). They also wooed our other extremely shy boy and were able to form a bond with him! We could not recommend them enough -- their knowledge of cats and careful approach was a great comfort to us while we were gone. We highly recommend Racheline and will be booking them again in the future! We highly recommend Racheline and will be booking them again for

Racheline is a lifesaver! My cat was hospitalized with a new diagnosis of CKD, and I had travel plans at the end of the week. Racheline was able to make a visit on short notice to meet me and my cat, and was a great support in understanding how my cat handles subcutaneous fluids which is a new thing for him. She's like a visiting nurse for cats. Though not technically a vet tech she is super experienced and can handle what your cat needs.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
