Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hello, I'm Gwen! I'm 30 years old and live in Brooklyn. I've been an animal lover my whole life ever since I bonded with my neighbor’s outdoor cat Sunset when I was 3. I fostered-to-adopt my first cat the second I started living on my own - when rescued he had a recurring stress-induced eye infection that required surgical intervention. After I fostered him through his surgeries his eye cleared up and he has been stress-free ever since. A year later I adopted him a companion and I'm happy to say I found his soulmate.

I can think of no better way to spend my days than hanging out with and taking care of your cat(s)! I have experience administering eye drops, oral and topical medications, and inhalers.

In addition to being a cat sitter, I have walked dogs of all sizes and temperaments, from high energy puppies to anxious seniors. Some people call me a cat/dog whisperer, but I just consider myself someone who is patient and attune to the unique needs of each animal. Outside of working with animals I have experience working in nonprofit administration as well as the service industry, I'm passionate about the environment and mental health awareness, and my hobbies include board games and tap dancing.

COVID-19 INFORMATION: I am fully vaccinated/boosted and wash my hands before and after each visit.

PLEASE NOTE: I adjust my pricing annually to account for cost of living increases. I am only able to do what I love if I can afford to live here! Thank you for understanding.

Learn More About Gwen

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting professionally since 2022, and prior to that had been dog walking professionally since 2019. I grew up around dogs and cats, so pet care was a regular part of my childhood and feels second nature to me as an adult. I absolutely love cat sitting, and hope to continue doing it for many more years to come!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I really enjoy getting to know each cat individually. Cats have such a range of personalities and it takes a lot of earned trust to get them to show it, so I'm always honored when a cat invites me to get to know them. I also love getting to know people through their pets, and it's an honor to be invited into someone's home and hear them talk about someone as important to them as their pet. I'm an introvert, but I could listen to people talk about their cats all day and never get tired.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I do! Their names are Georgie and Karl, and you can see pictures of them in my photo album. Georgie is a big grey tabby with an even bigger personality and a lot to say, and Karl is his deviously smart loyal younger brother, complete with quite a sense of humor and a prominent mustache to match. They're easygoing to a fault, love to get into trouble, and are the most loving and entertaining cats I couldn't be luckier to have.

I really appreciate Gwen! I have two challenging kitties—one is very shy/nervous and the other is an overeater who will happily eat his sister’s food while she’s hiding. Gwen was super understanding with their idiosyncrasies and managed to endear herself to them and ensure each got their breakfast and dinner. I am so grateful for her creativity and patience! Thank you Gwen!

Gwen was great! She was able to give one of my cats his pill each visit, and she sat and played and gave each cat individual attention. I also really appreciated her detailed texts after each visit with photos.

Gwen did a great job taking care of my kitty! They became besties right away (a rarity for my baby who takes a while to warm up to people), she sent me prompt updates and lots of photos, and made me feel comfortable leaving for a whole week. Will definitely book with her again!

This week

Gwen is my go-to cat sitter. Two of my cats need meds and the third is an anxious lil guy who leaves “surprises” when I go away. Gwen is reliable, communicative, and I can enjoy my travels knowing she is taking care of my furballs

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
