Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I do! I have a 5 year old rescue named Cookie. I also grew up with two cats, Casey and Charlie, and gravitate toward any cat amongst my family and friends.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

As someone who has hired a cat sitter from Meowtel, it was important to me that the sitter was communicative (meaning quick to respond), warm and a cat parent themselves. I would advise a customer to look for the same. They want reassurance that the sitter entering their home is trustworthy, reliable and going to care for their cat like they would. I find quick response, detailed communication and tone to be a precursor for those traits.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

From experience! My cat Cookie is timid and anxious and she takes a while to warm up to people. First I would ask the cat parent what’s the best way to approach their cat and follow those instructions. In my experience, using a soft baby talk voice usually helps, sitting on the floor (meet the cat at their level), and putting your hand out for the cat to smell will get the cat to warm up a little. Even if the cat is so timid and shy and hiding, I would ask the cat owner where the cat’s hiding places were so that I at least have eyes on the cat during the visit to ensure the cat is ok.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:


  • More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
  • 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
  • Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.

All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

New York cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
