How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
Living with two cats for six years, I have developed an 'airlock' mentality. I am hyper-aware of door-darting behavior. I always enter the home slowly, checking the floor level immediately, and ensuring the door is securely latched behind me before moving further into the house. I treat your home with the utmost respect. I confirm all windows and doors are locked before I leave. For key security, I prefer using lockboxes or secure digital codes, and I never attach your address or the cat’s name to physical keys. I always keep the contact info for your preferred veterinarian and the nearest 24/7 animal emergency clinic (like the Veterinary Emergency Group in White Plains) on my phone.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Having raised my own cat, Bubba, from a very timid kitten, I deeply understand that anxious cats need time to build trust. My approach is entirely cat-led: No Forced Interaction: I never force myself upon a timid cat. I allow them to approach me on their own terms, respecting their need for space. Calm Presence: I often sit quietly on the floor near them, ignoring them while reading or looking at my phone, to get them accustomed to my scent and presence without pressure. Low Body Language: I sit or crouch down to their level, avoiding towering over them, which can be intimidating. Building Association: I use high-value, smelly treats or interactive wand toys to create a positive association between my presence and fun or delicious rewards. Patience: I understand that building trust can take time, and I am comfortable letting the cat dictate the pace.

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
