During my visits, I stick closely to your routine to keep things familiar and stress-free. I'm very mindful of separation anxiety. The trick is to meet them where they are with patience and compassion. Also, separation anxiety goes both ways, so you can trust that I'll be giving you thoughtful and detailed updates.

Learn More About Kate

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I started catsitting for Meowtel in March 2025 after I was laid off from a corporate job. I had a feeling I'd enjoy it given that I am a shameless cat nerd, but I wasn't expecting to feel this level of fulfillment. I am not someone who is out to make a quick buck and simply show up, scoop a litter box, open a can of food, and leave. I take catsitting as seriously (if not more seriously) than any other position I've held throughout my career. My repeat clients will tell you how emotionally invested I become, especially when caring for senior or special needs cats. Rest assured, I will continue putting my all into catsitting for as long as I have the time, availability, and clientele.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two adult cats named Liberace (Siamese) and Elvira (domestic black short hair). Liberace is my needy boy who has to be by my side at all times. Elvira is my sassy, independent girlie who has both Liberace & myself wrapped around her little toe bean. They are my whole world! 🩷

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I was a Meowtel client for a couple years before I became a sitter. I can tell you firsthand that you should find someone you (and your cats) like and trust, and stick with them. Cats thrive on familiarity, so I've had the same Meowtel sitter for my two spoiled cats for as long as I've been using Meowtel. Look for a sitter who truly understands that cats need both respect and routine. A great sitter will be patient, attentive, and willing to adapt to your cat's needs. Always trust your instincts. You want someone who will treat your cat with the same care and love you do. Never settle for less! What sets me apart? I genuinely love bonding with every single cat I meet - no matter how standoffish they may be at first. We have to earn their trust and respect, and I take that task very seriously.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to start by having you show me where their food, litter box, pet carrier, and favorite hiding spots are. Doing these activities first gives your cat enough time to observe me interacting with you and become familiar with my voice and demeanor. THEN, I will be ready for an introduction. Handing me a treat to give to them helps establish a positive association. 😉 I've found it's better to schedule the meet-and-greet within a week of the first session so the cats will have an easier time remembering me. Lastly, I like to do a quick trial run with the spare key or door code to ensure I can get in and out with no issues. PS: I always wear a mask during the meet-and-greets as a courtesy so that I don't accidentally pass along a virus before your vacation. It's ok if you don't wear one. 😷👍

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

It's super important for cat parents to be careful about who they put down as their emergency contact. It should NOT be someone who will be traveling with you or who lives far away. Choose someone local (ideally with a spare key or access to your door code.) This will be the person I contact if I've been incapacitated (e.g., hospitalized with a serious injury that renders it impossible for me to make it to a session.) This will also be the person I contact if your cat has a health emergency and I'm unable to reach you.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

This is my specialty. I give them plenty of space and let them set the pace for every interaction. I've found that it helps to get down to their vantage point (meaning sit or lie down on the floor) and not make direct eye contact initially. If you watch their body language closely and make it clear that they're in charge and you are not a threat, they'll gradually warm up to you. In other words, anxious cats will look for cues from us that we are yielding control and letting them take the dominant role.

Kate is a cat sitting superstar! I am a very anxious cat mom who hasn’t left her babies alone in five years. I have never worked with Kate before, but her wonderful reviews said a lot about her. During the meet and greet, she was incredibly attentive to the instructions I was giving about the cats. She took notes without me asking her to, and she took photos of the cats every day she visited. Her check-ins with me were complete and comforting, and she was very dependable. She did everything I asked for perfectly, and she was on top of the little things I missed. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again and would highly recommend her to any loving cat parent. She is a gold star sitter by far!

Kate was absolutely incredible!! This was our first time leaving our three cats since we got them as kittens, so we were very nervous. Kate was so so sweet and so communicative. Even our most nervous little guy loved her by the end of the week!! Kate did such a good job handling everything these little velociraptors threw at her—and man did they really try to make life difficult while we were gone… from finding a way to turn on the fireplace to breaking one of their plates, they really put her through the ringer. Kate was so sweet and so kind through it all, and so so patient with our mischievous little babies. The enrichment activities she did with them were so sweet, and they were all so happy and healthy when we got home!! Kate made our trip so much less stressful. We truly can’t thank her enough!

Inviting someone into your home to care for your pets is always a stressful endeavor but Kate’s gentle loving personality completely erased all fear (for both us humans and our furry guys). Kate won us all over during our initial meet and greet visit and it just got better from there. She sent us daily updates with the cutest photos of her and our kitties enjoying each other’s company. She is fastidious about monitoring things like eating habits and litter box usage and reports what she is observing. Most importantly she loves with all of her heart. We will continue to reach out to Kate whenever we travel and most highly recommend her to anyone else in need of a cat sitter.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
