I grew up with cats, but despite being a huge cat lover, I currently don't have any of my own, due to my unfortunately allergic husband. I volunteered for PAWS and ACCT at various pet store locations for several years pre-pandemic, taking care of the cats that were available for adoption. At the PAWS location, we had a set list of responsibilities during our shifts, including feeding, cleaning the cages and litter boxes, administering medication as needed, facilitating meetings between potential adopters and the cats, and processing applications. The ACCT location had a dedicated staff for these things, so volunteers were mainly encouraged to just spend time with the cats, but I did assist with feeding and cleaning as needed.
