Cat Sitting in Pittsburgh, PA

Hi there!

In addition to caring for my Lynx Point Tabby "Po", I am an experienced foster & volunteer for a PGH based rescue. Through this organization I have cared for kittens, adult cats, and elderly cats, this has included those with special dietary needs, medication, and various temperaments.

Believe it or not, Po (the gray one with blue eyes, who is snuggly and sweet in all the pictures) was feral when he arrived to me. So I have a great understanding of building trust with cats of different comfort levels. I currently have a foster pair "Tuna" & "Tootsie" who are both experiencing indoor life...

I currently have a foster pair "Tuna" & "Tootsie" who are both experiencing indoor life for the first time! So my job is to build trust, socialize them, and send them off to a loving home. So far, so good!

Currently, I cat sit for various friends. I signed up for Meowtel as an opportunity to share the skills I have learned, as well as meet some new cats, and save up as I pursue grad school.

By training, my background is in Human Resources & Business Administration, so I am no stranger to background checks, privacy, ethics, and more--- meaning I will be there to care for your kitty, I will communicate with updates, and aside from that you can trust that I will be reliable, responsible, and respectful with your time and space.

Thank you for considering me to care for your furry friend while you are away!

Learn More About Anthony

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve dealt with the shy, to the friendly, to “not-so-nice”. Single or multi-cat households. I’m comfortable with adapting to the needs of the reservation. I’ve been cat sitting for friends for the last 5+ years, and I’ve worked with various rescues for the last 10+ years.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I enjoy connection in general. From meeting the cat parents ( effectively community members I haven't met yet and will now know ) to the kitties themselves. I know as a pet parent there is a lot of anxiety when leaving your fur-child at home and far from you. So I also find it rewarding if I can provide that reassurance that everything will be taken care of and you can simply relax and enjoy your trip. Its being able to provide that peace of mind that in turn feels good to me.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I’ve had a few good reaction meet and greets over the last few weeks. The parents of the shy cats were surprised when their typically fearful cats came right up and greeted me. My guess is that I’m generally calm around cats and I think they get that. I understand that cats can get scared on a moments notice and may bite, scratch, etc… but I don’t lead with anxiety. I just make myself available and if they want to check out who’s stopping by that’s fine, if not, also fine.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have a 2 year old Lynx Point Tabby named “Po.” He was one of my fosters, and we became incredibly bonded… so I “foster failed” but I like to say I “foster succeeded” because he’s my bestie. I do have a current foster duo named "Tuna" & "Tootsie", they are a few months old, brother sister pair. Currently working on socializing them- Tuna is loving indoor life, Tootsie has a few things to say about it...

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Feel free to ask questions. Personally I like to have the opportunity to answer and share knowledge, but also want to make sure that we are on the same page. If there are any behavioral or medical needs, be sure to state them clearly in the initial contact. That knowledge is useful to share so that you can ensure the sitter you choose is equipped and experienced to meet the need--- delaying that information might lead to an uncomfortable situation.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

If you are interested in booking, feel free to submit a reservation request, you can always cancel or adjust as needed. That allows me to see the location, cat(s), times, durations, dates, etc. so I can compare to my current calendar and ensure the travel times, visit needs, and my abilities match. You are also welcome to contact with questions without a formal request- I will message back asap! Next: -Free meet and greet at your home, where I meet the cats, we chat, and decide its a good fit! - You leave on trip. I feed cats, check water, litter, play, pet (if they want haha), and send lots of updates. - You return. Cats are happy. 5 Star Review (Please!) and we rebook next time (Thank you!)

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

As someone who currently has fosters as well as a full time cat in my home--- I am keen on keeping an eye out for potential hazards and mitigating them. I will be sure to ask questions, and have a clear understanding of your goals while you are away.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am typically in the area and available around the holidays, as my family is a bit far! If I do travel to visit them, I would block that off in advance.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Ladybug Mini Electric Cat Toy - Plastic ladybug with battery that vibrates on tile or hardwood and runs around in circles while the cats swat. Chew Ropes Cat Toy - Braided chew rope with gall fruit-part of the silverine plant which is sorta a highly potent catnip alternarive. Dollar tree cat toy wands - consistent winners… the basic wands with the elastic or the ribbons. Specifically with the fish on the end are great.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Patience and reassurance. I believe in many ways the cat can see or sense your mood. So if I approach a cat and am visibly anxious, I’ll likely get that back. I remain rather lighthearted and just try to reassure the cat that I’m here to help them and I won’t bother them or engage unless they want to. I’ve dealt with the sweet to the spicy, just communicate to me where your furry friends fall and I’ll adjust as need.

I went on a week long vacation out of state, and none of my friends or family live close to where I’m currently living, so I was apprehensive about finding somebody to care for my cat Reggie while I was gone. Upon being recommended Meowtel by one of my girlfriend’s friends, I looked around for cat sitters and saw that Anthony had consistently great reviews, so I gave it a shot. I can say without a doubt that Anthony went above and beyond and immediately alleviated any fears I had! Not only was he extremely quick to respond to DM’s, but he sent daily updates with several photos and videos showing him feeding, providing water for, cuddling with, and playing with Reggie, which warmed my heart every time. Not only did he do everything I hoped for, but he also EXCEEDED my expectations when a historic winter storm hit and complicated his ability to come and check on Reggie. Anthony went out of his way to set up an automatic feeder and an additional water bowl for Reggie to ensure he would still have his essentials even when he was unable to visit. I couldn’t be happier with Anthony’s services and he will undeniably be my first choice if I find myself needing a cat sitter again soon!

Anthony was extremely helpful supporting my two cats (and Lizard!). He consistently sent me updates & pictures of how my pets were doing, he asked all of the right questions to make sure he could best advocate for my cats, and even had my shy one stop hiding! My first experience on this app was terrific because of Anthony’s assistance.

I had a great experience with Anthony!! He was super flexible and very attentive to my kittens. Right before I left town, my kitten was prescribed a medication and he was more than happy to jump in and administer. He was super communicative and I felt really good about leaving my cats in his care!!

Communication with Anthony was very easy! We appreciated that Anthony was flexible with timing and worked with us when things didn’t go according to plan (like when we forgot to mention our door code). We felt comfortable right away and would definitely book again!

This was our friend experience with using Meowtel & having a pet sitter in general outside of family. We have a bunch of standoff-ish ladies and they immediately took to Anthony. Communication was great and the daily updates and pictures kept us at ease our entire trip. Couldnt ask for more!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Pittsburgh cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
