I'm Alyssa

Cat Sitting in Pittsburgh, PA

I've grown up around cats and currently have one of my own, along with two dogs! I've been cat sitting for over 20 years now, and I love how every single cat has their own personality. Getting to know each one is honestly one of my favorite parts of this job. :)

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions about booking/my schedule!

My Approach with New Cats:
- Always calm and patient. I let them approach me first
- Never force interactions. Some cats want attention right away, others need time to observe from across the room
- Had shy rescue cats eventually become my biggest snuggle buddies
- Also worked with social butterflies who greet me at the door like I'm their best friend
- Nothing makes me prouder than when a really timid cat hiding under the bed finally decides to trust me enough for gentle pets by the end of my visit. Those breakthrough moments are so special!

Experience & Medical Skills:
- 20+ years caring for cats of all ages (playful kittens to distinguished seniors)

Experience & Medical Skills:
- 20+ years caring for cats of all ages (playful kittens to distinguished seniors)
- Comfortable giving oral medications
- Experience with insulin injections and other medical care for diabetic cats
- Handle special feeding schedules and cats who need extra attention due to anxiety
- Previous work with animal welfare committees deepened my understanding of proper care standards

I definitely go beyond just the basics like food, water, and litter boxes (though those are super important too!). I love engaging cats in interactive play sessions using their favorite toys, giving treats when owners say it's okay, and of course providing pets and cuddles, but only if they want them! Some cats love full-body pets, others just want head scratches, and some are perfectly happy just having me nearby.

What You Can Expect:
- Regular photo updates during visits so you know how your kitty is doing
- Long-term relationship building. Many clients have now booked with me multiple times, and their cats actually seem excited when I show up!
- Reliable, consistent care. I treat every cat like they're my own
- Easy access from my south hills location to neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh

I can easily get to lots of areas - Shadyside, Oakland, Mt. Washington, Bethel Park, North Side, Forest Hills, and more. The nice thing about where I'm located is I don't have to deal with tunnels to get most places, so I can get to your cat consistently without traffic headaches.

Your cat's comfort is my number one priority, and I want you to have complete peace of mind when you're away

Learn More About Alyssa

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I absolutely love getting to know each cat's unique personality! After 20+ years of cat sitting and having cats of my own, I've learned that every single one is different. Some are shy and need time to warm up, others are social butterflies who greet you at the door, and some (like my Jack!) are all about the love but get overwhelmed easily. No matter what their personality, I find it so rewarding when they start to trust me and let their true selves shine through!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have one, named Jack! I adopted him from a shelter when he was just 8 weeks old. He's your typical boy cat who just wants all the love, isn't the most graceful, and is filled with purrs. He also gets overstimulated pretty easily, so I really understand cats who need breaks and space.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent, I want to make sure I know about you cat(s). How do they react with strangers, where their food/medication is, how often to change the water for them, litter box location, favorite toy. I also appreciate phone numbers of your vet for any just in case situations.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

While cat sitting, I always check around to see if I spot any vomit, or other bodily fluid where it shouldn’t be. If cats allow me to pet them, I will also be checking for and cuts bumps, etc., on their skin to make sure nothing new is there that could become more serious. Depending on the weather, I will check to make sure the thermostat is working and it’s not too hot or cold for the cats. If something is off with the temperature I will check in with the cat parents. Home wise I am always happy to take out trash and take packages in/mail in while you are away. I always lock the doors before I leave and always make sure no kitty has escaped! I am an observant person so if anything seems off, I will contact you to check in!

Alyssa is the best! I have a specific cat situation and Alyssa was able to accommodate all my cats preferences and meet him where he was at. He paid her back by allowing pets, and trust. I love the updates and pictures and she is always on time. As we all know how much cats love a routine. I sincerely can’t express how grateful I am to have Alyssa care for my baby while I’m away as I know he will be in great hands.

Alyssa took excellent care of my two cats while I was away. She sent updates and pictures with every visit. She was very attentive to my cats’ unique personalities and I felt like they were very well cared for! She was also very attentive to general house things like when my tomato plants ran out of water during a heat wave! My cats seemed super happy with Alyssa’s care and I look forward to her caring for them again.

I could not ask for a better cat sitter for my two senior kitties! Alyssa is a lovely, friendly, animal-loving person and my cats thought so too. She followed all instructions to a "T" and kept me informed after each visit. Smokey even allowed her pets! Thank you Alyssa!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Pittsburgh cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
