Cat Sitting in North Charleston, SC
I grew up around animals. I have had, cats, dogs, horses, raccoons, opossums, lizards, snakes, and even an alligator for a short time. It is an interesting story, you can ask about.
The cat distribution center found me at 2 years old. My mom said he refused to leave my side and followed me everywhere. He was a pretty siamese, that I called Sylvester... I moved to Charleston five years ago and love it. I am a former teacher and I was hoping to make some extra money and meet some animals doing it. I travel occasionally and know just how much I worry and want proper care for my pets. I feel that there are not enough people who do what is needed to care for our fur babies, so I decided to be that person.

I have had at least one cat ever since. They always seem to find me, or I them. I currently have 2. One I found under a car. The other was inherited from my mother, because I am the only other person he likes.
I love them and find they need special care when their important people are away. Sometimes they won't eat or like to hide. They get stressed at change just like we do. They need patience and someone who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure their routine is followed as closely as possible, despite their humans being away. I will do that. I am not afraid of messes.
I will respect your privacy, that is important to everyone who opens their homes to strangers.
I have a pretty open schedule to work with, so hopefully I can accommodate your needs. I appreciate your consideration and hope we can work together to care for your loved ones.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have taken care of lots of pets for people over the years. My mother's cats, my friends and other family. I feel special knowing theu trusted me with their loves and often asked me to do it again.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I enjoy meeting new cats and just loving them.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have two cats. Vlad is a senior Bengal-Siamese. I inhereted when my mother passed, because I was the only one other than her that he showed affection to. Bast is a small black kitty that I found under a car. She was feral and is now the sweetest thing.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
I like to ask the kitties routine. Listen to them and let them tell me all the things, the dislikes, the likes, and the desires that the pet itself has. I want to know about feeding routines, nighttime routines, cleaning routines, and all the small details that you find important.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
Double checking the kitty parent's requests, preferences and the environment. Making sure that the kitties are eating, they haven't injured themselves, and that they are using the litter box appropriately.
Are you usually available during holidays?
I will love to help during the holidays. I understand that traveling to see family can be anxious when we have to leave our fur family at home. Having someone who cares for them as well as you do makes traveling less stressful.
What is your favorite cat toy?
My cats love little cat toys with catnip and plastic balls with bells in them. I have always had them and all my cats love them.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Patience and time. With shy cats treats and patience. You wait for them to come to you. Cats often like to pretend they are above love and affection and if they think you don't care, oh then it's on.

Mara was wonderful with our 3 girls! She kept us updated each day with great photos and videos. We were gone for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Year's holiday. It was great not having to worry about our girls during our hectic holiday travels. Mara voluntarily offered to shift her schedule on New Year's Eve to give them some calming treats later in the day so they would not be as stressed by the fireworks that night. She even kept the cat fur tumbleweeds and the litter they love to track out of the box from taking over the house before we got back. We would not hesitate to book with Mara again!

Mara is very detail oriented and thorough! Leaving our cat for many days is always stressful (both for us and for him) but Mara is excellent at communicating and sending lots of pictures and info. Our cat requires a pill twice a day and Mara was able to trouble shoot and make sure he got his medicine without issue. It’s so reassuring knowing he is in good hands and we definitely recommend Mara!

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:

- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

North Charleston cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $23.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Mara was wonderful with both my boys. My oldest has health issues so I was especially pleased to see that he got his medication daily and lots of attention. My younger boy still has lots of energy so it was fun seeing all the photos and videos of Mara playing with them. Great job overall!

This was our first experience with Meowtel, and we were delighted. This was the first time I left my cat by himself for an extended period of time following the recent passing of his brother. Mara left videos everyday showing me that he was getting lots of extra attention. He seemed happy. Mara did a wonderful job of taking care of my home and my cat and I would recommend her to others. I’ve already booked her for a short trip next month.

Mara was amazing. I have never left my cats with anybody but family. We were taking an international trip and had moved to SC and don’t have family here and I was freaking out about leaving my Gabby who is an extremely shy girl and afraid of people. When I discovered Meowtel and I found Mara, her face and then her bio sold me and I said to myself and my husband , I can leave Gabby in her care. Mara did not DISAPPOINT!!!!!!! And after a few days she was actually able to pet Gabby. She always sent me pictures and kept me posted on the situation. I will in the future use Mara again. Thanks to her we were able to travel internationally and I never worried.
