I'm Amber

Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hey there! My name's Amber, and I'm excited to get to know you and your furry family!

I've been a cat owner all my life - ever since I was brought home from the hospital as a baby - and I have had a passion for felines ever since. I have experience looking after cats of all ages and temperaments, from kittens to seniors, and crazy playful to very shy (I especially love the shy ones!)

I have experience in administering topical and oral medications, and have been recently trained in Feline CPR.

I am also a cat volunteer at my local animal shelter, so I'm no stranger to all the different types of personalities cats can have! It has taught me to go slow and steady, build trust, and have patience when meeting new felines...

It has taught me to go slow and steady, build trust, and have patience when meeting new felines. I've also spent time working at an outdoor venue, which included duties of looking after 3 barn / outdoor cats for almost two years, all three with different levels of shyness. My experience with cats is in all ranges, from playful kittens to senior lap cats.

When I’m not looking after animals, I work as a writing facilitator by day and a fine dining server with a focus in wine by night. Outside of this, you can usually find me at home reading, writing, or playing video games. I’ll also get outside and hike if the weather is beautiful enough!

I know how nerve-racking it can be leaving your furry family member behind for vacation or travel, and I will do everything in my power to alleviate that worry! I pride myself on being very communicative, keeping you up to date with any important (or cute!) updates. I'm happy to clean up messes, administer oral or topical medications, and keep a cat on a schedule that keeps them happy and content.

I’m so excited to meet you and your treasured piece of the family! :)

Learn More About Amber

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have officially cat sat on and off for 6 years for various family friends and clients. One of my previous jobs included looking after 3 barn cats, and I have experience volunteering at my local animal shelter, so I’ve been around cats of all different types of temperaments. I have experience with topical and oral medication, as well as both kittens and elderly cats - both healthy or with health concerns. Outside of this, I’ve been a cat owner since I was born, and have spent my life looking after cats.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

As a cat owner who has had to board my cats in the past and knows how stressful it can be on them, I love that I can provide owners with peace of mind on their vacations, while also getting to know and hang out with all different types of cat personalities. I love chatting with them, being silly and playing with them, and overall just seeing cats happy and in their element!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite cat I have ever looked after was a deaf senior cat named Owen. He could be a bit timid, but once he warmed up, he was such a talker! (And a LOUD one too!) I would always have to wake him carefully, so as not to startle him, but once he realized someone was home with him, he would jump up and have so much to say. I had the privilege of looking after him both in sickness and health, and developed a strong bond with him. I found a big soft spot in my heart for deaf cats when I met Owen, and I loved looking after him for many years.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I would say it's important to choose someone who best fits the needs of their cat. If you're able to have a meet and greet between the cat and sitter, I would always recommend one! It's important to choose someone you think understands your cat and is someone you trust with their routine!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I love to do meet and greets whenever possible, so the cat can get to meet me with their owner present (which is less stressful on them), and also so the owner can get to meet me in person too! I typically get all the information I need ahead of time written down for reference, such as any important schedules (feeding, medication), any special needs or requests for the cat, important extra info, and emergency vet contact info. I always stay communicative with every visit, and am always happy to adhere to any special requests to make the owners more comfortable!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I'm very Type-A, so I will always do my rounds to make sure doors and windows are locked, medications and foods are secured, and everything is left the way it was before I entered. If the cat is an escape artist, I'll take special care entering and exiting the property to keep them safe inside!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Shy cats are my favorite! I had my own shy baby for the majority of my life, and I have worked with barn and feral cats as well. I would always love to do an initial meeting to introduce myself to the pet in the owner’s presence for security. During the reservation, I would spend time with the cat on their own terms. Talk to them, offer treats if it allows in their diet, offer playtime to bond, and just generally share space with them without forcing them out of hiding if they're not ready. Most timid cats usually just need time to adjust to new things, and with me being a new thing in their home, I would just take my time building up that trust and encouraging confidence while giving them time to get used to me!

I couldn't ask for a better cat sitter than Amber! She took some adorable photos of my cats and was great at communicating changes in my cats' behaviour. It's clear that she loves cats - something that my very needy cats benefitted from. Amber was also extremely considerate of my space/schedule and even took the time to clean up some of the litter my cats tracked before I got home. Would definitely hire her again!

What would I have done with Amber?! She was so kind and thorough on her visits. My kitty loved her which was evident by our first meet and greet all the way to the photos she diligently sent. Amber visited for 2 days and she went above and beyond, even cleaning up cat vomit. She is a gem and you would be lucky to have Amber watch your kitties while you are away.

Amber did an incredible job of watching our cat while we were way. She went above and beyond to make our cat comfortable and to make us comfortable as well while being away, as she sent us constant progress reports and pictures of our cat. We highly recommend Amber and we look forward to using her again in the future!

I can’t say enough good things about Amber! She took amazing care of my 2 cats while I was away. When I met her I could tell she genuinely loves cats. She sent me daily updates with detailed notes about how my cats were doing which put my mind completely at ease. The house was spotless when I got back and she even went above and beyond by spending extra time with them. If you’re looking for someone reliable, kind, and totally devoted to your cats, Amber is the absolute best. She has my trust!

It was my first time using Meowtel and I was nervous about leaving my cats and bird with someone new, but Amber immediately put me at ease with how thoughtful, caring, and professional she was throughout! She sent great updates and went above and beyond in caring for all my fur/feather babies. Communication was excellent. Amber also took initiative in troubleshooting a hairball issue with a kitty cat as well as brought up a concern about our bird eating very little of her food so we were able to problem solve together. Will definitely have Amber watch the crew again in the future!

Amber was great! We recently left town for five days - our first trip without our two kittens. We were a little nervous to leave them at first, but Amber made everything very easy. She took great care of them, made sure they had plenty of playtime and cuddles, and sent us the best pictures and updates while we were out. We came back home to two very happy cats :)

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
