What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve had cats my entire life and have over 10 years of professional experience caring for animals. My background includes working as a kennel technician and as an animal-care intern at a wildlife rehabilitation facility, along with years of professional pet sitting. I’ve cared for cats with all kinds of personalities and needs, including senior, shy, anxious, playful, and independent cats. I understand that every cat is different, so I take the time to meet them where they are. Some cats want lots of attention and playtime, while others need space and patience to feel comfortable. I let each cat set the pace, build trust with them, and provide personalized care based on their individual personality and routine.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to know each cat’s unique personality. Every cat is different, and I love adapting my approach to fit their individual needs. Some cats want lots of attention, playtime, and cuddles, while others are more independent and prefer to observe from a distance. Shy or anxious cats may need extra patience and a quiet approach, while energetic cats often thrive with plenty of play and enrichment. I really enjoy learning each cat’s routines, quirks, and preferences and making them feel comfortable in my care. There’s something especially rewarding about earning the trust of a nervous cat and watching them slowly come out of their shell. Most importantly, I want every cat to feel safe, respected, and cared for while their owners are away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I’ve had cats my entire life, and they’ve always been a special part of my family. I love getting to know each cat’s unique personality and quirks. My senior cat, Cotton, was with me for an incredible 22 years before I had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye. Caring for her taught me so much about the patience, comfort, and extra care senior cats can need. I currently have a sweet senior calico named Anna, who is an absolute sweetheart. I’m especially comfortable caring for older cats and understand the importance of maintaining their routines and giving them plenty of patience and affection. At one point I had four cats who were all happy, healthy, and well cared for. I’m comfortable caring for cats with all kinds of personalities—from playful and social to shy and cautious.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I take the safety and security of both the cats and the home very seriously. I follow the owner’s instructions and each cat’s normal routine closely, including feeding schedules, medications, litter box care, and any special needs. I make sure doors, windows, gates, and other potential escape routes are secure and am especially careful when entering and leaving the home. I also keep an eye out for anything unusual, such as changes in a cat’s behavior, appetite, or bathroom habits, and communicate with the owner promptly if I have any concerns. I treat every home with the same care and respect I would want someone to show my own home. My goal is for the cats to remain safe, comfortable, and stress-free while giving their owners peace of mind while they’re away.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! I’m usually available during the holidays and understand that finding reliable pet care can be especially difficult during those times. I’m happy to work with your schedule and do my best to accommodate holiday travel plans and last-minute needs when my availability allows.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I take a very patient, low-pressure approach with timid or anxious cats. I never force interaction or expect them to warm up immediately. I give them plenty of space and allow them to approach me on their own terms while keeping their routine as consistent and comfortable as possible. I pay close attention to their body language and adjust my approach based on what makes them feel safest. Sometimes that means quietly sitting nearby, speaking softly, offering treats, or simply taking care of their needs and letting them observe me from a comfortable distance. Over time, I work on building trust at their pace.
