What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting for over 10 years, and there have definitely been some challenges. I once cared for a cat rescued from an extreme neglect case who refused to use his littler box. It took three days, and entirely new litter situation, and a boatload of coaxing for him to feel comfortable. Afterwards, he was the sweetest darling you could ever ask for. What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I absolutely love getting to know each individual’s personality. Cats (and animals in general) really are like snowflakes, no two are alike!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I once watched a friend’s cat for a week and we binged 2 season of the Great British Bake Off together. I think he was scared of Paul Hollywood.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have a 2 year old black cat named Friday. Yes she was adopted during October and yes Halloween is her favorite holiday. Whenever I’m home she snuggles into my side or sits on top of the couch so she can supervise me. If I stop giving her scritches she gives the most offended look and taps me for more. She’s helped me through so many hard times just by being herself, and I owe her the best life possible.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

If you wouldn’t trust them with your human child, don’t trust them with your fur baby. Interview them thoroughly to ensure their genuine interest and compassion in caring for a valued member of your family.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

If possible, I prefer to do meet and greets with the cat parent and cat. I completely understand that many cats are wary around strangers, but even just seeing their food, water, litter, and play set up helps me feel more prepared to care for them. If meet and greets are not possible, communication is key on anything and everything that could possibly come up during my visits.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always double and triple check all doors and windows to ensure they are secured and scour the home for potential hazards that could put the cat in danger. My cat love eating plastic packaging, so my safety routine for her is clearing them out as soon as they appear. Many a terrifying vet visit have been avoided this way, much to my vet-anxious kitty’s relief.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Holiday traveling is my worst nightmare, so you will definitely find me in the area and away from busy airports. If we’re being perfectly honest, holidays at home get a bit hectic too and I’d always enjoy a change in scenery with a new feline friend.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I’m a huge fan of small catnip plushies, especially if they look like human food. My cat has two tacos and a little “purrseco” bottle!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Patience, patience, patience I sit away from them and don’t make eye contact, but keep speaking very gently until they’re comfortable enough to come out. The most important thing to me is that they are eating, drinking, and relieving themselves. If I have to hide to make sure they take care of their needs, all is well.
