Cat Sitting in Portland, OR

I’ve been loving and caring for cats my whole life- from childhood companions to my own fur baby in South Korea, and again during my postdoc years in California. Whether they’re curious kittens or older cats with special needs, I approach each one with patience, respect, and care for their unique personalities.
I’m a trained biologist with a PhD in biomedical science and a background in animal behavior research. In college, both in the U.S. and South Africa, I studied how animals interact with their environments- and what helps them feel safe, engaged, and well. That means I’m not just a cat lover- I’m also deeply attuned to your cat’s body language, stress signals, and daily rhythms...

I’m a trained biologist with a PhD in biomedical science and a background in animal behavior research. In college, both in the U.S. and South Africa, I studied how animals interact with their environments- and what helps them feel safe, engaged, and well. That means I’m not just a cat lover- I’m also deeply attuned to your cat’s body language, stress signals, and daily rhythms. I notice the little things that help animals thrive, and I’m excellent at following care routines and special instructions, especially when it comes to health or medication.
Over the past years, I’ve completed 35+ sits across multiple cities and countries, caring for all kinds of cat- shy, social, senior, spicy, and everything in between. My work these days is mostly remote, writing grant proposals for community-based wellness projects, which allows me to offer flexible daytime or overnight care. Writing breaks spent cuddling and playing with cats? It’s the purrrfect reset!
If you're looking for someone warm, reliable, and truly invested in your cat’s well-being, I’d love to support you. You can expect consistent updates with photos and check-ins, so you can relax knowing your cat is in good hands. Let’s make your time away stress-free for both you and your furry companion.

Learn More About Tania

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been professionally cat sitting since 2017, and it actually started while I was writing my PhD thesis. I was spending long hours researching and needed a shift in environment—something that brought more joy and groundedness into my days. Cat sitting became the perfect balance: caring for animals while taking breaks from writing, and it ended up being exactly what I needed. Since then, I’ve completed over 35 sits across multiple cities and countries, working with cats of all ages, temperaments, and needs—including senior cats, shy or reactive kitties, and those with medical routines. With my background in biology and animal behavior research, I tend to notice the subtle things—how a cat communicates comfort or stress, what helps them feel safe, and how to build trust at their pace. It’s such a meaningful rhythm for me, and I genuinely love the relationships that form through this work.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I love most about cat sitting is building trust—especially with shy or sensitive cats. It’s such a gift when a cat who usually hides starts to feel safe enough to curl up nearby or initiate connection. I have a strong track record with cats who “don’t like people,” and it’s something I truly honor. At the same time, I love matching the energy of playful, high-spirited cats—getting them moving, engaging their curiosity, and making sure they feel seen and cared for. Whether it’s quiet presence or full-on feather wand action, I meet each cat where they are. I also love practicing nonverbal communication—it’s something I’m passionate about, and animals are incredible teachers. Cat sitting leaves me feeling both energized and grounded, like I’ve been part of something peaceful and purposeful. It’s truly one of my favorite ways to be of service.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! I live with a hilarious, cuddly, endlessly entertaining cat named T’Challa. We rescued him when he was just two months old, so I’ve had full hands-on experience with kittens—including the wild energy, post-surgery care, and all the snuggles in between. He’s now a full-on character: part action film, part rom-com, part cozy drama. Honestly, he’s become our home’s main form of entertainment—always up to something cute or ridiculous. Since my partner and I both work from home, he gets plenty of love and attention, even when I’m off caring for other cats. Being T’Challa’s human has deepened my connection to this work even more—it reminds me daily how each cat is their own little universe to tune into and care for.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

When choosing a cat sitter, it helps to think about both the practical and the relational. Of course, you want someone reliable and communicative—but also someone who truly knows how to read your cat. Whether they’re shy, playful, or somewhere in between, every cat has their own rhythm and language, and a great sitter takes the time to tune in. I also recommend asking how they handle challenges—like if your cat gets into a plant, starts vomiting, or hides for hours. Even if those moments are rare, knowing your sitter can stay grounded, take action, and keep you in the loop makes a big difference. It’s all about finding someone who can hold space for your cat’s needs—both in the sweet, everyday moments and the unpredictable ones too.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I’m usually available during holidays—and I actually really enjoy cat sitting during that time. Since I work remotely and set my own schedule, I tend to take my personal breaks during the off-season, which makes it easy for me to be present and flexible when others are away. Holidays can be a sensitive time for pets, so I love being able to offer calm, consistent care when it’s needed most.

What is your favorite cat toy?

T’Challa (my cat) has definitely helped me level up my toy game. He’s obsessed with laser pointers and cat wands—the ones that look like little fishing poles. Lately, we’ve been loving Cat Boinks—those springy mesh toys you can pinch and launch across the room. I hadn’t seen them before T’Challa, but now we play fetch with them—he actually brings them back so I can launch them again! They’ve been a hit with other playful cats too, especially the ones who love a good chase.

Tania always does a great job watching our cats so we had her do overnight stays while we were gone for the week. Our older cat has a complicated medication/supplement/food regimen and Tania navigated it with ease. I came home to find an impressive spreadsheet she'd created to track all of the daily to-dos. Her attention to detail and thoughtfulness will put any cat parent at ease.

Tania has a calming presence and is friendly and thoughtful – perfect qualities for a cat sitter. At our initial meeting, our senior cat took to her instantly, and our other (very skittish) cat even appeared from hiding to make a new friend. Tania asked helpful clarifying questions during her visit which gave me a lot of confidence in her experience as a caretaker of cats. While we were away, Tania shared detailed updates and lots of photos. Our senior cat needs specific care due to her age and chronic health issues, and Tania ensured continuity in her daily medication and food schedule. We arrived home after a 4 day trip to find a tidy home and two happy cats.

This is the second time we've had Tania stay overnight with our cats while we're away. Our elder cat has occasional GI issues and Tania was proactive about communicating updates and following directions for additional care procedures. She is detail oriented and thorough, and the kitties clearly love having her around. The house was clean and tidy when we came home.

Tania was wonderful to work with. She was very responsive, took lots of notes during the meet and greet, and sent detailed notes everyday letting me know how my cat was doing. I HIGHLY recommend her, especially if your cat has extra needs, like medication.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
