Using positive reinforcement as my primary strategy, I have helped cats who are nervous about carries, cat doors, and people. I have trained cats to do high fives, spin, and be more comfortable brushing their teeth and clipping their claws. I have grown up with cats in the house my whole life. My other experience has ranged from volunteering at shelters, to working with various different animals in pet stores, to cat sitting for many different people over the last 14 years. When cat sitting, I always make sure to get as much information about the cat as I can before starting a sit. I make sure to know if they need medications, are door darters, expert hiders, etc. That way, I can give them the best care possible!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Before meeting with the cat parent, I always ask them information about their cat, such as temperament, medical needs, how many times a day they get fed, etc. After that, I set up a meet and greet so we can meet in person and make sure the people and cats are all comfortable with each other. At the meet and greet, I make sure we go over the cats’ routine so that I can keep the cat(s) as healthy and happy as possible while caring for them.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Ahead of time, I get as much information about the cat as I can. If they are an indoor/outdoor cat, I typically ask that they be kept inside while I am looking after them so I can be sure I can see them every visit to make sure they are healthy. If the cat is a door darter, I’ll ask the parent what their typical routine for this is to ensure the cat does not get out. I also always enter a home carefully with my foot in the door so no cats slip by, and throw treats away from the door if need be. If a cat needs medication, I try to set up a practice visit before starting the official visits, to make sure the cat will let me get a hold of them to give them their medication.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Shy and nervous cats I always try to give as much space as possible. If the cat hides when I enter the home, I will check with the cat parent for where their usual hiding places are and make sure I can get my eye on them. I never push a cat past where they are comfortable and let them come to me unless it is an emergency situation and I need to get ahold of them. I will sit with treats and talk to them in a calm, quiet voice. I love to use wand toys to see if I can get them to play from their hiding spot.

excellent sitter, always on time, listened to what I said and very attentive of my kitty. I live at cityscape residences and thank goodness she had sat for another resident here before- she was familiar with all the parking/validation/key fob access. She was perfect. my shy kitty warmed up to her and loved her

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Phoenix cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
