Cat Sitting in Albany, CA

Hi all! My name is Lily, I’m a cat lover based in the East Bay. You can often find me walking around my neighborhood saying hi to every possible cat. I recently moved to the Bay and am not allowed to have pets in my current apartment, so I love taking care of other people’s babies even more. Although I can’t have my own cats, I have volunteered at multiple shelters in the past few years, socializing with the cats, giving them meds, feeding them & cleaning litter boxes, and playing with them. I was a volunteer at my college campus’s cat shelter for about two and a half years, both as a general volunteer and a medic. I have also been a cat sitter (cat sat?) for my own friends’ kitties numerous times... I have also been a cat sitter (cat sat?) for my own friends’ kitties numerous times.

I prefer to start cat sitting appointments by meeting them with you first. I know they’re very important to you, and I think it’s best to meet them while they’re in your presence. I like to get the lay of the land so that we’re both comfortable with each other. I think it’s really important to get to know a cat’s personality as well to know how to best approach them. My main goal is always to make the cats feel loved and safe, and I truly adore all cats’ quirks and personalities.

I try to be really mindful of the fact that I’m coming into your home and your cat’s space. I know it can take a while for some cats to warm up to new people and I want to be as respectful of that as possible! I will never try to force or pressure a cat into something they are clearly uncomfortable with. Gaining their trust is my first goal with your kitties so I can provide the best care possible.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I am very vigilant when it comes to other peoples homes and kitties. I always always make sure to follow the home owner’s instructions and the cat’s regular routine. I like to spend a minimum of 30 minutes with the cats to make sure they are well taken care of and watch carefully for signs of sickness or anything unusual. Before leaving I double check that no windows or doors are left open, and that any cleaning supplies or something potentially hazardous to kitties is put away properly. I also will never share personal information or door codes with anyone else, and I follow the homeowner’s instructions very closely. You’re trusting me a lot, and I want to ensure the most stress free experience for you.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy has to be the colorful plastic springs. So many cats I know love those and will bat them around endlessly. I love how cats are so entertained by them, and they can be a fun toy for them even when they’re alone.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

For anxious and timid kitties, I make sure to create a non-threatening and safe environment. I think it’s most important to let them approach me when they’re ready. I will watch vigilantly for signs of discomfort or agitation like hissing, airplane ears, cowering or hiding, and never force an interaction with them. I move slowly and calmly so as to not startle them, and always exercise extreme patience with them.

Lily was amazing! She did home visits for my cats for 2 weeks -- she took great care of them and sent very cute updates every day, which made me feel much better being away! I had some issues with an automatic feeder and late cat food delivery, and Lily went out of her way to help sort everything out, leaving my home very clean as well. My cats loved her, and felt very comfortable playing and sitting with her. It was my first time using Meowtel, and was really a great experience. I would fully recommend Lily!

The whole process with Lily was very smooth. She's a good communicator, we set up a meet and greet to meet Mookie before the sit, and then she gave me updates every day! I would definitely book with Lily again

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Albany cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $39.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
