I'm Valerie

Cat Sitting in Fremont, CA

I owned my own fur baby for 10 years until she passed away from FIP in 2017. Due to my current living situation, I am unable to adopt another, but I still have a lot of love to give!
When you have experience living and owning a cat, you learn to read their behaviors in a way that non-cat owners could ever understand. Patience and knowing when to give them attention and when to give them space is key to warming up to shy ones. In the end, most cats still crave company, even if it means sitting on the opposite side of the room from you.
Being a cat sitter since 2023, I have created a standard of care for every one of my clients...

In the end, most cats still crave company, even if it means sitting on the opposite side of the room from you.
Being a cat sitter since 2023, I have created a standard of care for every one of my clients. I will always do an in-person meet and greet for new clients just to familiarize myself with the cat and home. At each visit, I make sure they are properly fed, watered, played with, and litter scooped. When I leave, I ensure the home is secure and send pictures and a detailed report of the cats' activities. I have experience giving basic medications such as flea medication, pills, and inhaler, but I always evaluate the cat's comfortability first.
The cats always come first, and I will always have flexibility and an open line of communication with my clients for feedback, preferences, or emergencies.

Note: If you are booking an OVERNIGHT in my extended service zone, the rate I have set includes me keeping your cats company for not only the night, but also the majority of the day (minus running errands and getting food).

Learn More About Valerie

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting since 2023, and it has been a wonderful experience. I have met cats in all forms, shapes, sizes, and personalities. From the shy boys that run and hide to the social chatters to the big attitudes with a quick paw. Regardless of who they are, everyone of them holds a special place in my heart.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to spend quality time with the cats, especially since I can’t have one of my own right now due to my living situation. It’s a way for me to share my love for them, care for their needs, and enjoy their unique personalities.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

One of my favorite cat sitting experiences was with a sweet, cuddly cat who loved curling up next to me while I watched TV. It was such a comforting and enjoyable way to bond — like having a little companion for movie night.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Sammy was a dark orange tabby that I had adopted from an ex who no longer wanted her. She lived a full 10 years with me, moving with me from college to my first job in Illinois. She was the best cat that anyone could have asked for, never destroying things or eating what she shouldn't. She loved to be the little spoon, get belly rubs, and chase after the end of a stick. At the age of 17, she passed away from FIP. During the last two weeks of her life, I cared for her day and night as if she was an infant child. I made sure she was as comfortable as possible, up until she passed the day before my birthday. She forever will be my baby.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Cats are often looked as low maintenance, and can be left alone in the home for many days. However, cats really are social creatures, as tough love as they are. They still like being around people and I often see cats hanging around in the same room even if they’re not looking for attention. You and your home are their entire world, and without a caretaker, they will be alone in this world of theirs while you are away.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

During the meet and greet, I ask many questions including: Are there any areas of the house they are not allowed to be in? Are they dashers? Do I have to worry about how I enter or exit the home? Are they toilet drinkers? Do I need to close the toilet lid after using the bathroom? I ask my clients for emergency contact information, vet information, and the location of the carriers in case of any emergency. During the sit, the first thing I do on arrival is to locate each cat. I keep track of where they are throughout the time I am in the house, and double check on each of them again before I leave the home. Before leaving, I ensure all exterior windows and doors are locked and closed. Finally, I send a detailed report to the owners to ensure that there are no red flags or unusual behaviors happening.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

With timid or anxious cats, I take a very gentle and patient approach. I let them come to me on their own terms, avoid sudden movements, and speak in a soft, soothing voice. I respect their space, offering comfort through routine and quiet presence rather than forcing interaction. I make sure they see me when I give them their meals, and I often will add a treat to try to incorporate positive reinforcement. Over time, many cats warm up once they realize they’re safe and cared for. My goal is always to make them feel as secure and comfortable as possible.

Valerie is truly a "Cat Whisperer" - Highly Recommended! We have three cats with a somewhat complicated feeding routine (4 different food types across 6 bowls), and she followed every instruction perfectly without missing a beat. What impressed me most was her interaction with the cats. Our youngest is usually terrified of strangers—it even took my parents a week to get close to her—but she warmed up to Valerie in just one day! Also, our eldest needs daily eye cleaning and usually refuses to let stranger touch his face, but Valerie was able to care for him from day one. She clearly has a magic touch. She also went above and beyond by refilling the heavy litter sand, even though I explicitly told her she didn't need to worry about it. She is attentive, caring, and professional. I will definitely be hiring her again!

Valerie was great! she took care of our kitties for 5 days and the kitties were well-fed and entertained 💖 This was our first time with Valerie, during the meet-and-greet she took notes and asked good questions about any expectations. During the visits, she kept me updated about the cats and anything that popped up (ex. we left our clock alarm on, she made sure it was turned off after inquiring what it was for), and she kept our space clean and tidy 💝 She gave us timely updates on how the kitties were doing and had good communication. The cats were happy and well fed when we got home 🥰 Thank you so much Valerie 💕

Valerie is an amazing sitter! She went above and beyond every visit — sending me updates and videos so I always felt connected, bringing in my packages, refilling my cat’s water fountain, and spending quality playtime with my very energetic cat. It’s clear she truly cares and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure your cat is safe, happy, and well cared for. I highly recommend her!

Valerie was wonderful! I'd never left my kitties before for 2 weeks and even thought they were a little nervous I received daily updates and pictures which was very nice. She did an excellent job and I will definitely use her again on my next "shorter" trip!.

It's hard to travel to Europe for a wedding and not spend a full 2 weeks there. I'm glad I was able to ease your mind even if the kitties were a little grouchy about your absence!

Valerie was so diligent in searching out our terribly shy cats. By the end of her time caring for them, at least one of the two was ready to be friendly. Next time I'm sure the other will welcome her as well! She cares very much about her feline charges.

I'm glad my hard work paid off! After almost 3 weeks, I'm so happy that I got to pet one of them. Maybe next time I'll win over the other baby.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
