Learn More About Ashley

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been pet-sitting on and off for the past 10 years. It started out with teachers, professors, and colleagues asking me to take care of their cats and dogs while they were away. I loved being able to spend quality time with other people's pets and I loved the flexibility that pet sitting gives me. It has been nothing but a positive, rewarding, and community-building experience for me. Pet sitting was also the reason I got heavily involved in fostering and volunteering.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Being able to cat sit gives me peace of mind knowing I'm keeping your most precious furry family member safe and giving love and companionship while you're away. I am a neurodivergent individual and full-time artist, so working with animals in a comfortable and stress-free environment is key to helping me stay well and continue my artistic practice.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite cat-sitting reservation was through a former teacher of mine. I got to look after their dog, and 3 cats while they went away on trips. I had an absolute blast getting to know their 3 cats most of all. Each one had such a unique personality that I fell in love with. One of their cats, Autumn, was on the shyer side. It took a few visits for her to warm up to me, but once she did, she always came to greet me and sit with me when I stayed.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I currently have one kitty! Her name is Maple, and she is a domestic long hair calico. She was adopted at 1 year from the Daisy Hope Foundation after my emotional support cat passed. The two other cats I had unfortunately have passed the rainbow bridge. Zeus was an orange domestic longhair cat who I had from kittenhood and lived for 17 years. My second cat was Elliot, who was an emotional support animal that my sorority sister passed on to me. He passed away at 6 years old from Kidney Disease.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Look for someone with good communication skills, trust, and reliability. You also want someone who understands cats and all the different flavors they come in. Make sure to hire someone who has either owned cats for a long time or has worked with cats for a long time. If someone is just as excited to get to know your furry baby as much as you love them, you're bound to find a great reliable cat sitter.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to have clear upfront directions and communication. It's important to me to know the usual routines of your kitty and to know their tendencies, important medical information, emergency information, and your expectations for me. This allows me to do my best job and make sure I don't forget any important information that is necessary to the well-being of your kitty.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

It is important to make sure all doors and windows to the home remain secure and shut while you're visiting and when you leave. It is also important to make sure the client's home stays the same as it was before and to clean up any toys or loose items you were using to entertain the kitties. Also making sure to follow the client's directions for what is accessible in the home for the cat and what is not. Clear communication is super important.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am available on holidays for drop-in visits but if you are looking for an overnight stay for a holiday, please contact me a month in advance.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My absolute favorite cat toy is a combination of toys. I love setting up the tunnels I have and placing toys inside them. I usually guide Maple through the tunnels using a stick toy and let her rip through hunting and running. Anything that gets a cat's hunting skills turned on is a fun toy for me.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Let me tell you a story about my baby, Maple! Maple was a foster cat that I adopted through the volunteer organization I worked with, Daisy's Hope Foundation. When I first brought Maple home she was incredibly timid and anxious. She hid in the closet of my spare room and didn't come out. Every day I went in, sat in the room, offered her food and water, and spoke gently to her. I repeated this process until each day I noticed she moved further and further out from the closet. After about a month of patience and love, she started to greet me when I came into her room. It's now 5 years later and she's absolutely glued to my hip. I love my little anxious baby, and wouldn't trade her for the world. Because with that patience I gave, she gave me incredible companionship and unconditional love in return.

Don't hesitate, just book her!! As a very nervous cat mother due to another cat sitter letting my babies outside prior, Ashley was very understanding with my appreciation and explicit instructions with trying out a new cat sitter! I have an escape artist cat, Biscuit, who always tries to get out and Muffin, the ultimate scardey cat, and they both loved her!! The fact that my scardey cat, Muffin, came out and laid with her tells me all I need to know about Ashley because Muffin ALWAYS hides from new people for weeks, especially people she does not trust or feel safe around at all. Ashley was always on time and even last minute picked up another shift the day of when I unexpectedly needed it! Overall, so thankful I met someone who I can trust with my cats after having such a bad previous experience. So, for any other nervous cat parents with scared cats or escape artists, Ashley will take great care of them!

For the very first time using any cat sitter. Could not be happier. Having three senior cats with different personalities and diets. Was not a easy task, but Ashley was up to it. Mr. T are youngest, got all the pets and plays. Kitty our shy cat came out and got pets and with her special diet restrictions. Loved getting to see all the pictures of Kitty coming out. Moo was still shy but Ashley got her to eat. Would recommend so great with our cats.

Ashley fid a wonderful job with my super shy cat. My cat is not good with strangers, yet she came out and actively played with Ashley on multiple days. Ashley communicated with us every day, including multiple pictures. She really put our fears at ease regarding our favorite feline 💜

This was our first time having Ashley sit for us. We found her to be very conscientious about things I had said and even remembered a couple of things from our meet and greet. We recieved two updates each day with lots of pictures of our boys. She feed them as soon as she got to our home each evening and I really appreciated her care for their schedule.

Our kitties love Ashley and we do too! We made a last minute change with our reservation and she happily accepted our modification to our trip. She sends the best updates with pictures and videos. We have a shy cat and Ashley always impresses me with her patience at winning him over. She even brought over some toys for our cats! It’s so nice knowing we have a reliable cat sitter while we are away.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Redlands cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
